DS new transmission

Ask the main dealer whats wrong with the gearbox. Keep the conversation polite. Its either somefink physical or electric/electronic. Ask if a full replacement is the only way or if a repair can be made. Will the replacement box be new or from their approved recon option. Part prices are a bit higher and not always available as quick as they were pre virus. Is the 4k5 sovs the total to pay, on top of diagnostics, taking into accout they take back yer old box, or is the old box beyond use.

There is nothing wrong with them asking LR tech for help. It doesn't mean the garage is useless. It's what they're there for. I have had my own tech requests put in via my local main dealer in the past, to help me. Done as a favour.

Fighting lr direct wont work. Its the dealer who puts in warranty claims to lr on the owners behalf. They can also put in a request for work outside of warranty to be considered, where lr may wish to make an offer to pay some of the cost of repair, if the work is carried out at said main dealer. In rare cases they may pay it all.

My FL1 gearbox started playing up at 8k miles and well out of warranty. Replaced at about 10k miles at my cost. There is no gurantee a gearbox will get to 50k miles. We're told yours has a failure. Unfortunatley it can happen. There may others who have had the same faiilure. The disco sport forum seem to hate their vehicles so it would probably be on there.
 
I did understand how long you had had it. But by consumer law an item from new should last longer than this. If you buy it secondhand but from a dealer and all the servicing has been carried out a main dealer it will strengthen your case. However under consumer law, your argument is with the dealer not the manufacturer.
don't know the law on hidden defects will have to look that up.
I spoke to the dealer I bought from yesterday and they said my claim was with the manufacturer and to ask them to pay for the repairs.
 
It would be interesting to see the logic of this diagnosis.
I can't see how a transmission issue can prevent the vehicle from starting. It's probably just an inhibitor switch which isn't closing.
I seriously doubt it's an issue which requires a replacement transmission.
I am trying to get an email from the garage with the information. So far its been telephone calls despite requesting they send me the full details.

Unfortunately with Green Flag who we discovered in this situation are sh*t but you dont realise this until you need them. Apparently they are asking LR to foot the bill….waiting to see the outcome of this. Of course they have no courtesy cars in the meantime!!

The garage has said they will submit a claim to see if LR will cover repair. Also waiting on garage to actually email the full details of what is wrong exactly as all been told via phone is its the “transmission” despite requesting written confirmation.
 
I know it's easy for me to say, is not my car and I'm not the one dealing with them, but you need evidence that there is a transmission failure. If there are no fault codes and the engine is not running, how have they decided the gearbox is the cause of the engine not starting?
I don't really know how it works, but surely you don't want to put a claim in for the wrong thing that doesn't fix the issue? If that's indeed the case.
Is there something they're not telling you?

Thanks. We are going back to garage today to ask all these questions and more. I want them to put it all in writing which they havent done yet.

Basic consumer law is that your problem is with the person you "consumed" it from. i.e. the one who sold it to you and who made the money from your purchase.
If they are starting like that they sound well dodgy.
Unless they know something and are not telling you, like you will be able to get it done by them (LR) for a lot less.
The "It's out of warranty, tough." attitude is the one they go for first, you do end up having to quote consumer law at some people before they will actually conform to it.
What was your attitude to them when you spoke to them. Angry? Pleading? Aggressive? Threatening?
Oh and did you have a pre-purchase check made when you bought it like an AA or RAC check?
Although that can be a double -edged sword as we found out on buying our first D1 whcih turned out to have a dodgy rear differential. The selling garage said "Well the AA bloke said there was nothing wrong with it." We got the survey fee back from the AA and fortunately the garage that fitted a secondhand diff, cos it couldn't actually see any reason why the other one was rumbling, just left it in there and charged us very little as we couldn't take the not-obviously bust diff back to the dealer who sold it to us. Very strange!
Sorry, digressed there.
But if you got stroppy with the garage it'll lead to them being less in a frame of mind to help you, if they ever were going to be like that.

They explained the process that the LR garage its now in (as it broke down 80 miles away) have to claim via Landrover for its repair. the garage its in says they are waiting on the costings for the repair and will submit the claim once they know these. In the meantime they still havent told us what exactly is wrong the transmission despite asking.
No AA or RAC checks were done when we bought the car used at the Landrover dealer. Havent been at all stroppy but becoming increasingly frustrated.

I get the feeling they aren't telling you because they don't know and maybe the LR technical dept isn't telling them because they don't know or aren't sure either.
I've been in a situation where I had to buy an old banger to run around in while a Main Dealer constantly failed to repair a vehicle properly. Despite getting Trading Standards involved, who back in the day sent an engineer to look at the car and then got the garage to strip the new short engine and ancillaries down to the last nut and bolt. They tried to fix it three times and each time failed to get it really running right. Seized valve, sheered bolt holding camshaft sprocket wheel to camshaft, etc etc. Ruined cylinder head due to a mechanics laziness-stupidity.
In the end I took it off them to fix it myself. £600+ wasted back in about 1983/4. Never got the money back. About £2200 in today's money. And cars were simpler then! (Triumph Dolomite Sprint.)

Yeh. They say they have no courtesy cars available so really is crap having no car in the meantime. I also feel they dont appear to know the problem as they are being pretty evasive so far with details and seem in no rush. And I dont want to get all crazy on them as we are at their mercy seeing as its undriveable.
