I would just like to say

Did my oven a couple of weeks ago, had the not so bright idea of using acid.
So goggled masked and gloved l sprayed inside the trays etc with hydrochloric acid in a kitchen spray , shut the door and left it a few hours.
Cleaned it great but took the chrome off the grill trays and now it rusts an looks horrible.
Saving up for a new oven, this one was only 150 quid 6 years ago so due for a new one

Now forgive me for any ignorance I show here, but isn't a diode pack actually quite a simple thing? so couldn't one just tack the thing apart, test each diode until you find the one that needs replacing then buy that? Shouldn't it have it's part number/rating /etc marked on it?
Can't be any tougher than a simple mains 240v AC battery charger and I have taken mine apart and tested it.
And as you know I am feckin useless with modern electrix!!

A diode pack in an older alternator is just a bridge rectifier with a voltage regulator. In modern cars they have a chip that actively monitors the charging circuit.

Not sure whats wrong yet as ive not looks cause my back was too sore, as per I was out for a leisurely
drive & the dash lights looked dimmer than usual. :confused: So hammered it back in the dark with my side
lights on & turning them off when there was no cars coming towards me. just as well I know the roads cause I couldnt see nowt lol plus the misses was in the car says im not right in the head.
Got home sounded like a noisy pully turned it off & the battery was deeded. :( Hurt my back the next
morning. :(
 
Evening folks:)

Had another quick look at dads car still no conclusive results. Need a ****ing ddm so after a failed attempt to get 1 yesterday. Screw fix humm you lot keep raving about it so asked dad he says yeah I have the catalog;) I take a look got 1 fill in me slip and off I go:D didn’t have that 1 in stock so got the cheapest £8.50:eek: how can they make them for that. It’s like Argos for blokes it’s a huge amount of stuff:D
Anyway more testing tomorrow afternoon as it started raining and was bitter cold. spoke with M she said it’s been sunny all day just to rub it in:D

Got to go order flowers with Mum & Dad. I said I would take them as it might get hard:(

So you took it apart,tested it, but you don’t say if you actually got it back together working:p:p:D
But yes it is a simple thing really. If it was mine at home or if I lived here it would be off and stripped. And then I would go and see the bloke to rob something from his scrap pile:) but I have a spare car;)

The chrome on our handles on the rangemaster cooker started flaking & the misses said she didnt
know what cleaner caused it or a mix of two products (one ran out & used another ??) Called up
rangemaster & they sent an engineer out to fit 4 new handles over 100 quid a pop :eek::eek:
But we got em free :D:D

Sorry, just cannot agree with this. We have a sofa for our dogs covered with appropriate protection that we can take off when we have guests.
We also have a special dog blanket we put on our bed, one generally sleeps on it with us and the other two come on for a cuddle first thing in the morning, They stay on for varying times but never bother us in fact we love the feeling of them cuddling in to us. They are three Cockers so not too big and bothersome.
We also have them on our laps. They don't abuse this, they know when to be there and when not. Our chairs are leather but obviously most of the time they are actually on us. We dress appropriately and they seem to sense which clothes are appropriate.
They never get on any other furniture or any beds in any other room. They know which is OK and which is not and we honestly have never had to tell them off. They never get onto anything that they have not been "told" they can get onto, i.e. by encouraging them and being there with them. They even know the "rules" in France where the furniture is different, for instance we sit on a sofa over there but individual armchairs over here. In all our years of dog owning, i.e. about 40 to 50 years, we have never had an animal damage a bed or a piece of furniture except an over-excited male, non-neutered, chewing a stringer (Stretcher?) on a kitchen chair, in frustration. He stopped once we had him done! (King Charles Cavalier)
But we do appreciate that not all dogs are so obliging!;)

I didn't really need to fix it cos I have an all singing all dancing Ring one now, but it would be useful to fix it and have it as a back up or to do another batt at the same time. It's ancient and only cost about a tenner.
There is some sort of thermal heat protection cut-out thing that has gone and I could either work round it or replace it if I could find one. Can't be bothered at the mo, but I sure haven't thrown it away.
If I decide to fix it I might put it up on here for help with what I am unsure of, but the rectifier's components all work fine, The transformer coils are both fine, so it ain't gonna be difficult to fix.
You've just reminded me I have a mate who is an electrical engineer so he could work with me (And I could borrow his , much better, soldering iron than mine. It took me ages to make up the loom for the kit car I am building.)
Tightarsitis struck again. I always think "I'll just be doing this little bit, it'll be OK.":rolleyes:
