Hmm. I'm wondering what to do with the Land Rover over Christmas. As we know, all good Christmases are spent underneath a Land Rover but the problem is I don't seem to have any big jobs lined up. The brakes, swivel balls and wheel bearings were done just over a year ago, and a reconditioned gearbox was fitted last winter. The suspension bushes and shocks haven't been replaced for a few years but I can't detect any movement yet and they were clearly sufficient to satisfy the MOT man a couple of weeks ago. Dinitrol has been doing its job over the last few years so there wouldn't be much point replacing the rear cross member. The engine is still pretty sweet. I've never even had the head off. I haven't even needed to be brought home on a flatbed truck courtesy of the AA since August 2020. I'm completely at a loss. I can't for the life of me work out what's wrong with it.

Do what we do with ours every Christmas week, go away in it!
(Not last year sadly, but usually the Dales, or somewhere else hilly and scenic, preferably with a bit of snow. Cornwall this year, unless Boris puts the Kibosh on it!););):):):)

That's a good idea. Really tempt fate by attempting a long journey when parts suppliers and garages are shut, the breakdown agencies are running the most meagre of skeleton services and there's an expensive hotel booking at the other end with no cancellation refund option. Surely that will induce a major malfunction. Maybe try and venture into territory which isn't covered by the Euro breakdown cover too. There's got to be a way of getting rid of this outlandish reliability.

Hee! Hee! Hee!
We've been doing it since we bought our first one in 2004 roughly. Went green laning on our own in the snow! (Wouldn't do that now, ignorance is bliss!) We rented a place each time but yes, no refund available by the time we set off!
Only time a car ever played up was last time we went to Cornwall and the waste gate actuator mounting nuts came off. didn't stop us using it, it just became a pain every time it went into limp home mode. And yes there were no shops where I could buy 10mm nuts!
Never regretted doing it, so comfortable for us and the dogs, can see over the dry-stone walls and further down a twisty road which gives a smoother drive, (we originally did it in a normal car.)
Guess we just love living dangerously!!!!!;););)

changed gear and transfer oil. made easy using my new toy made from an old Eclipse sprayer, a length of hydraulic hose and a tap with a trigger

Found this in the local scrappy for £10, full working order, no leaks but no handle. Just needed a clean up.
Would have been useful last Saturday when I had a flat but ready for next time!
Seen them on eBay for £25 upwards so I'm happy.

Nice one.
The one from my D2 leaks for a pastime, and I can't trust it. I top it up it seems OK and works OK then next time I come to it, it's leaked again.
And I do keep it upright.
Have to drive around with a small trolley jack as well just in case. Grrr!
Wish I could find a repair kit! (Not that I've looked very hard!) At least you can make up a handle yourself!:):):)

Nice.

I've got one of those but don't know if it works, I just found it in one of the lockers in the back of the Landy about 15 years ago. It's not a Land Rover one tho.

Chugged down to the ski station, played for a few hours, then picked up a ton of stuff from the builder's merchants.
Came back up an icy 10% slope with not a single slip...

Noticed a tyre was a bit flat, tried to move the nuts with the 12" bar..no chance
Tried with the 24" bar...no chance.
Tried with the 24" bar and a big extension tube, and they moved, not sheared...quite a relief!

Fed it some 15W30 tractor oil- the local agricultural merchant has good prices on brake, hydraulic and engine oil, so I use it!

What the hell is a ski station?
