Hi, I just got used witter heavy duty tow bar for my landy diesel 2004. I have following questions
1. Someone says M16x125 for chassis and M14x85 for cross member https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/tow-bar-bolts.303768/ I searched internet, I can get M16x120 or 130 and M14x80 or 90, are they okay?
is grade 8.8 enough for towing caravan? drop plate bolts need higher grade?
2. How to access cross member holes from top, it doesn't seem accessible from bottom. Do I need nuts to tighten bolts?
 
To answer your questions in reverse order, the cross member bolts should find captive nuts.
As for the lengths, if necessary buy the longer ones and cut 'em down with a hacksaw, but don't forget to allow for washers.
As for the tensile strength, 8.8 will do, unless you are thinking of doing snatch recovery etc.

Din't know how much advice to give as hate to patronise but yes, that's what I always do, as well as putting the bit you are cutting off in the vice! I also sometimes wind a die down as it's a bit better than a nut. He's cutting off so little he won't get it in the vice any sense, unless he buys well-overlong bolts!
He may also need to file the end to check it'll bite cleanly.

Sorry @Kaijun I have no idea of thread pitch as I only took the old one off so I could get some welding done, then put it back on.
I have a feeling they were standard for the diameter, but I am not certain.
Maybe if you look online as if you were buying them from a LR supplier, they'll give the dimensions. sorry I can't help you more.

I have a funny feeling there has been a thread on this before and I may even have contributed, cos I seem to remember taking photos, but I could be wrong.
 
I checked the length of chassis, it is about 83 mm. I don't know if a long bolt like 120 mm may have a bit longer non-threaded part so that the nut can not tighten up.

TBH I don't suppose it matters too much as long as they are sprung steel. And if you only use one per bolt, put it under the nut, not the bolt head.
When fitting be aware that not only are they quite heavy when you are trying to job a job that sometimes seems to need three hands at least!
But also, you need to put it together bit by bit, rather than trying to put it together as a whole, at least don't do any bolts up tight until they are all in place.
And if you have a cross piece, that goes across near the bolts to the chassis, it should sit above the side/diagonal bits' flanges. On mine, I left it off till the last minute and then couldn't fit it like that, no matter what I did, without taking it off, so I bolted it underneath. No problem strength-wise but wouldn't be clever if I intended to go off road or greenlaning. So fit it as you go along.

(Hint, it's purpose made and behind the offside rear light unit, you'll need the special LR trailer connection plug/socket.)
