Leaky rear Diff' time... :(

Well it's bound to happen sometime, the rear diff' has started to leak out of the casing front nose. Just looking to price up parts list on lrworkshop https://www.lrworkshop.com/diagrams...-suspension/rear-axle/differential-rear_52626

Is this a straight forward job and is there anything I should be aware of...better parts than others/upgrades?

Oh, and it's not due to over pressurisation/blocked diff' breather. All breathers are new within past 12mths

Yes, that looks about right to me. Very similar to what I had last time mine was getting moist.

Looks a bit of a belt and braces affair - I see you get a bolt, a nut and a split pin so as to fit almost any style of pinion shaft!

I try and avoid Britpart seals where possible, but that goes without saying. I try and get Corteco ones.

Not too hard to do on the vehicle. Sometimes it needs a bit of a tug with a puller to get the flange off the splines. The only fiddly bit is getting the new seal to drive in straight. Sometimes a piece of pipe or a really big socket can be useful.

Absolutely get corteco.
I fitted BP ones originally and changed them about 6months later as they started leaking again.

You will likely only need the Corteco seal.
As mentioned its a pretty easy job although the nut tightens at 130NM so you need a good torque wrench and some room to work.
I use a 50mm socket to refit the seal and a hefty screwdriver to lever the old one out.

Number 11 is the seal, number 12 is the dust guard that usually comes off still on the drive flange.
Seal removal tool, a sort of curved hook on a handle available. After years of getting them out with a screwdriver I tried out a mates removal tool and had to get one myself.

I have been using them hooked removal tools for years, and everytime without fail as the seal pops out I manage to flick diff oil all over my face/chest.
Same cheap tool also works on the trucks, but it does start to bend!

If you currently have the square flange and are replacing with the round flange kit remember to remove the spacer fitted behind the square flange, the round flange doesn’t require it.

Thanks Eddy, I'm going to do just this...buy updated flange kit, throw away the el cheapo seal and install a Corteco jobbie.

To get the old seal out I just screwed a self tapper into it then pulled it out with pliers
