I am thinking of fitting an engine pre-heater before the weather turns really cold in my TD5 but I don't want to go through the process of removing a core plug to fit a block heater. From what I understand the heated pad type ones that you fit to your oil sump are pretty ineffective but I have seen a couple of YouTube examples where the ones you fit into the coolant piping which feeds the vehicles heater core seem to be ok, there are loads of similar ones on eBay
Anyone had any experience of this and if it worked we did you fit it into the water piping? I saw one post on this site where it was going to be fitted in the pipe between the expansion tank and the engine but I'm not sure this would be the best place – but perhaps it is??
Type of heater I am thinking about picture below and all responses very welcome
