I'll start with the obvious, is this dial on red or blue ?

I my memory is correct l322`s have an electric valve in the engine bay that lets the hot water through to the heater and they can stick.

Yeah there is a valve block that cause the issue on the L322, 15 min job to swop it out.

Hi - yes have tried every possible permutation with the central vent (per your photo) and all the other temp switches, air con on /off and it still blows cold air

Depends what diagnostics they use, not all will read RR's.

Located on the right hand side of the engine but double check as you have the newer tdv8 engine ? I'm pretty sure the heater system is the same. It's a 15 min swop over remember the rubber hoses do bend so don't be afraid to move them for access.
