Hi all .
New to the group had my last TD5 6 years before losing it it chassis rot last year (but more clued up now) so my current one is tidier underneath and should see me right for good few years .
Since I bought it though I’ve had intermittent issue with a power lag. Not every drive (I’m in and out of it 4/5 times a day mind) one drive will be responsive and pretty quick and the next (especially uphill) will be slow as **** until the turbo kicks in @2k revs then it flies off again . It’s really frustrating as I towed my Horse with it the other day and it was bloody awful on inclines ! It’s had a full service . Waste gate is fine . Replaced MAF/ambient sensor/turbo actuator/fuel pump/valve waste gate/injector loom. I do have a 2nd hand turbo to try it but surely if it was that it would be all the time ?? Really getting on my nerves now and it’s gonna be a nightmare with 1500kg of horses on board I only had one the other day ! HELP A DAMSEL IN DISTRESS PLEASE THANKYOU !

Hello, you really need to get it plugged in to diagnostics. If you are in the Hampshire area I'd take it to Brooklyn 4x4. Seems you've done the likely culprits (although you didn't list the fuel regulator which is know for leaking). There is also sometimes an issue with the accelerator loom rubbing/shorting, I was losing my accelerator totally in the rain. Throttle is electronic and measured at the pedal - this can also be checked easily by diagnostics for fault. Give Joe at Brooklyn a call - great friendly outfit and know their TD5s well.

Hey Thankyou for reply , yeah it’s been on a diagnostic and it only brought up an air flow issue . The fuel regulator had been replaced also (not by me but looks a new one) so I’m guessing this has been an issue for the previous owner , I even think it’s been chipped too coz when it’s going well it’s really well!!! ! Didn’t notice the issue on the test drive though typically lol it does it in all weathers /temperatures too lol

I know you say the loom has been replaced but definitely check there's no oil in the red plug of your ecu. Some of the replacement injector harness's are junk so it could be a cheapo part that failed and its an easy fix. Unless its a common issue you'll be chasing your tail though so I'd definitely try and book in with Brooklyn - the fault may be a tiny little thing that they can quickly sort.
Have you noticed it smoke when its down on power? Worth checking the the MAF is a genuine/VDO one also as aftermarket ones are rubbish. Also worth checking intercooler hoses condition as they could be collapsing under load.

Yeah no smoke at anytime ! MAF is from advanced factors my local Land Rover dealer and I never go for the cheap parts when replacing it was about 85 if I remember correctly. No oil in ecu . I guess it’s time to get it booked in somewhere

Intercooler pipes was actually something I thought about replacing tbh . I was looking at some coloured ones on eBay do you think they’ll be **** quality? x

Hi, I went through all this and you could be replacing/buying things just for the sake of it. Yeah - not all hoses are the same in quality that's for sure. Allisport has good name but you'd likely pay a premium for them. Id just replace with standard (thats if they even did need replacing). I bought a new VDO MAF this month for 85 so you probably have got that one! I keep ramming Brooklyn down your throat but I know them personally and he will be my go to when stuck as I'm moving down to Hampshire in near future.

What you need, is them to drive it and it have the hiccup whilst live data logging.

The beauty of this forum, is you can ask for recommendations on bits like hoses or upgrades! There's a lot of knowledge on here.

Another vote for Brooklyn, I used to use them when I lived in Hampshire.
