Hi guys new problem with my l322 3.0 td6 2005 it drives fine for 30 miles but then when it's at running temp it's sticks in 5 gear and even if I put it in manual mode it won't change up or down when I stop at lights etc it sets off in 5 gear it must be killing the clutch... If I turn it off and leave for five mins it's fine again the gear box has been serviced 4 years ago...the transfer box oil is low but should that have anything to do with it? No warming lights or limp mode... Any ideas or had the same problem

Drop the gearbox oil and look for métal flecks.. If there is metal present your in need of a box, torque converter and oil cooler. Hopefully not!!
;)

There is only one way to find out! Have you topped it back up? Unless it's jamming or seizing...
Check all fluid levels and if the problem continues check the gearbox for debris. It is a common failure on that model. Your luck could be in but it all needs to be varified.

Thank you the transfer fuild is due tomorrow.... The gearbox oil is full and clean... So don't want to drop it...the gear box had the full service 4 years ago...should be ok I hope lol... I have heard about oil cooler being a problem but don't know how to check it...

The oil cooler isn't the problem on the gm5 speed box. It's the convertor clutch breaking down the contaminates the box and the cooler.
Dropping the oil is a sure fire way to rule out the expensive repair. I wouldn't ignore the possibility even if the oil was changed it can still go boobs out!!

Cheers pal so the best way is to drop the oil and if it's got bits in just change the oil? Or if the oil is clean what do I do next? Also is it true the gear box oil has to be put in a special way? Temperature etc ....

5th WITH the TC Converter lock up, if it sticking when hot it is most likely a pressure/solenoid issue

more than likely the TCC PWM Solenoid Valve Stuck On or the TCC Regulator Apply Valve.

both require the valvebody to be rebuilt usually with the sonnax kit.

The oil in the gearbox has to be emptied out, then the gearbox sump lowered, if there is metal flakes the box needs repairs. The oil cooler will be contaminated also and its pipes.
Before you drop the oil make sure the refill plug can be unscrewed first so you can refill it if all is good.
To refill, put oil into the refill hole until it starts to run out. Replace filler plug finger tight.
Then start the engine and go through the gears using the gear lever while pausing in each position. Keep your foot on the brake also while doing this.
Place into park, Then leave the engine running and undo the filler plug if I'm correct at 30-40° temp then refill until it starts to drop out. While running!!
Tighten the plug and test drive.

Not a solution, just an observation that you called lock-up '5th'...

you do need to have comprehension when you google you know.

No need to use google my good man.. ;)

5th gear with the lockup clutch engaged uses a separate solenoid known as the TCC PWM Solenoid Valve.

It isn't that hard... :)

In normal circumstances above 56mph in 5th yes, but OP is in 5th from a standing start, are you suggesting he's in lock-up at 0mph?

Did you read my post at all?

If the solenoid is stuck then it won't disengage, so yes..

The same symptoms can be attributed to the box going into limp home mode, however that throws a transmission fault...
