Loaded up the shopping, got into the car, key will not turn in the ignition. No amount wiggling helped. It has happened before but a quick wiggle freed it, not this time. Luckily wife had the spare key, with a bit of a wiggle that turned. Looks like the lock barrel pins are shot.
Dealer seems to think a new steering column is needed, they say the barrel cannot be removed which is not true as I have done it.
Looks like I'll be knocking the pins out so any flat bit of metal will turn the ignition on.
Never a dull moment.

You have done it before though, or you know it is a pain?
Is the green ring around it supposed to light up?
Yes the green ring does light up. I have done it before, I swapped the knackered ignition barrel on my project car with the good one from my scrapper and when I get time I will swap the barrel in the door handle.

My key barrel has difficulty popping out on key removal, it has to be pressed fully in for it to pop out, I'm told that if by oversight one doesn't pop it out it flattens the battery,
I'd like to take it apart to give it a bloody good clean without the barrel falling apart, anyone done it, videos please?

How do you change the bulb?

I did do it after.
Well I swapped it for the ashtray one while it was apart...shhh! ;)

Take the shroud off (bloomin potch!) and it’s right there.

Wonder if this is why my battery was randomly flat this evening?

My ashtray one doesn't work eithe. In fact, I'm not sure if any of my interior bulbs work apart from one in the roof light.
I turn my interior lights off out of sheer paranoia left over from my pre 1000cca days.
Hold middle button for few seconds turn on/off
I get annoyed with myself if I forget to reset it after a battery disconnect

Give the lock a couple of good squirts of electrical contact cleaner inside (do not use wd40) and a bit of key wiggling then let it dry or blast out with air line and use some graphite lock powder puffed in.

Wot Brian said. You can get a pack of 4 mini spray cans of graphite powder on Amazon for not a lot. Orange caps on mine.
