Hello, I've got a 57plate 110. Both break lights and driver side side light are out. Bulbs OK. Fuses OK. Driver side break and side light are eroded and plan to replace. What is the bit called the light casing locks into as this too needs replacing on the break light. Anyone know why the other break light would not be working as it looks fine? Will this work once I have replaced the two eroded light casings? Can anyone recommend an affordable reliable supplier? I'm planning to replace them myself, any tips as im new to this and after all I'm just a girl, can anyone help a girl out? Thanks

Being 'just a girl' is no excuse, we have several on the site, they learn as fast as the guys.

Brake light switch could be an option for both brake lights.
You could try shorting across the terminals in the plug that attaches to the switch to test it.

Try ringing Paddock Motors (Google them), they do parts for most Land Rovers, and are usually reasonably priced.
Google will also reveal many other suppliers of both genuine and aftermarket parts.

Welcome to LZ, by the way! :)

And try posting about your issues in the Defender section, it will get more attention there.
And a full description of your vehicle always helps, either on LZ or when ordering parts. 2007 Defender 110, fairly sure at that age it will be a Td5 engine.

Thank you. I used to post on the Facebook groups but no longer have social media so this is my 1st shot at asking for help in a forum.

You will get plenty of help on LZ. I am not very familiar with that vehicle, but there are plenty on the forum that have them.
As a general point, if you are going to work on your own Land Rover, I would suggest getting a good manual, which will have wiring diagrams in it, very useful with your present query.
And always remember Google Search is your friend for parts.

Post a thread about it in the Defender section, I think you will get plenty of replies this evening! :)

The earth wires for both lamps will join and share a common earth point. The high level brake light will also share this common earth route, is that lamp working? Oh, and it is brake, not break (unless its broken :p)

The power cable from the brake light switch splits into 3-ways; one each for the low level brake lights and one to the high level light. As the high level light is still working, the switch must be ok. I suspect the earth cables for the low level brake lights have been affected by corrosion.

Thanks for that, saves me trying to check the switch. So to check the earth on the lower brakes now.....
 
For the low cost involved, try a new bulb first. If that does not fix it, it will be useful when one of your brake light bulbs breaks :oops:
