Hi all I have a p38 diesel 2001. It’s never gone into low range since I’ve had it. I’m just wondering where to start looking to fix it?

You'll see the radio motor that moves the shaft on the back of the transfer box. You can take it off and move the triangular shaft to move it manually. RAVE has the details for what voltages on what pins move the motor.
 
Yes, called radio motor in RAVE.
Probably why I could never find anything useful as I had aftermarket radio with it - seems to be a common aftermarket (Pioneer?)
Walked back last night. Bl**dy knackered when I got in. I snuck in a mixed grill at the Wetherspoons but by the time i got back I demolished 5 packets of Quavers.
I do like the large mix grill
 
Now you have made me want to dig some lamb out of the freezer. I bloody know its in the bottom and I have to try and fit it all back in............ thanks;):D.

I'm currently supping a crafty pint waiting for my extra rare steak to arrive. Normal service with vegetables will be restored tomorrow when the missus returns!
 
I assume you checked the fuse ????
there is a way to test the BW shift motor
In the wiring diagram there is a status table.
Now get your boss to crawl under the transfer box and connect pin 5 to ground and then let him play with 7 and 8 to 12V. You can now read out on the transfer box ECU input when you are at the desired state.
If the motor whizzes and nothing happens up there, check all the cables etc.
if that is fine, check the switch at the dashboard or for cookies under the XYZ switch if it is an auto.
sending the motor backwards and forward usually unjams it
 
Seized ratio motor leading to burnt out Transfer ECU. Do you get the beeps on the dash when you try to select low? If not it could simply be the switch activated by the gear lever on the lever assembly.
