Possibly interesting info regarding VE pump and DTI gauge

Bosch ve pump perkins 4 pot di 2.0 n/a diesel aka maestro lump.
New cambelts one engine had that nice crack as you opened the throttle, other was much softer/quieter and lacked a little punch.
All timing belt marks and pins all spot on
Dti gauge showed one engine with 1.4mm lift and other softer one with 1.1mm lift
Adavance pump body (no slotted holes as per tdi) until we have 1.4mm lift and bang its a good un again.

Frankly I was amazed such a small amount (.30mm) made so much difference, this would also expalin the eye watering exhaust fumes Ive been getting for the last year!

I might even try the gauge on one of my cars, maybe one day possibly some time in the future maybe:D

Nope the maestro di runs the bosch ve pump which is fitted to many many makes of cars and engines (turbo and n/a) and all are timed pretty much the same, only difference being the amount of lift.

Have you used a dti gauge on a ve pump? if so interested to hear of your experiences.
 
Is something I keep meaning to do, got the dial indicator and the kit needed, just got to get around to it. Will do this when I fit the new turbo. Just to make sure it is all timed correctly.

Interesting thing I noticed was how much the pump kept lifting after the engine was at tdc, in the case of the one I was doing correct lift was 1.4mm and the thing kept going after tdc right up to 2.70mm.
I think I got the indicator kit off of ebay a few years back for 30 odd quid.

Just looked only 33 quid for brand new! even better its got the 90 degree adaptor so no need to remove fuel delivery pipework to get gauge into the holder.
