You will be fine, you have doozle too :D:confused:;)

If you read on here you will see. Bagshot has spent years on here rebuilding his DSE to high standard until I joined and pointed out he had a wonky headlight wiper. At that point he lost his s**t, buys a V8 and sells the doozle  Or atleast that's what he told his Mrs - he actually still has the two :rolleyes::D:)

Your not missing out - it's your thread, you're part of it now ;) Do you have headlight wipers??

Haha makes perfect sense now, cheers.
Ermmmmm, yes I do have headlight wipers, like most things on it, I’m working on the basis that they don’t work........I hadn’t even thought to look to see if they were straight.... haha. I’ll put the starting issues to one side when I get home tomorrow and check the wipers first
Cheers.

To OP since your new il give you the lay of the land.
- everybody will try to help with their limited knowledge (opinions). If someone like Wammers gives you advice - take it, ignore everything else and just do it - it will work.

- banter is the norm don't take it to heart (especially in AG) advice is advise - don't get ****y if it's not what you want to hear.
I once saw a guy incorrectly advising to smear coppaslip all over the brake pad contact area :eek: When told to shut the FU (by senior staff) due to the potential deadly consequences he took it personal and retaliated nastily. Gone :)

- if you find something out or something keeps you up at night wondering P38's - share it , we are all here to help eachother ;)

Quick update....
Home much later than hoped, so already dark by time I popped out to have a look. Definitely air in diesel. Bled as best I could. Then just cranked it enlessley and pumped pedal.......tried.....repeat sequence few times and away it went! Runs nice when going. :)
But definitely a diesel leak some where, hence letting air in, as few drips under neath. Will have through go over it in day light later in week.
But for now there is hope, haha. Thanks to all for your help. And Wammers, I will ditch the after market pump and sort the lift pump asap.
Cheers.

Favourite place to leak is the leak[y] off pipes. Don't use the cheap stuff to replace or you'll be doing it every six months. Injector #4 has been known to leak too - had to replace mine last year because it sprang a leak.

Yours is a later model with the brake pipes going behind the tank. If you're keeping her then drop the tank to do the pump and check the brake pipes when you're doing so. They're a bit notorious for going behind there. I think it traps the moisture and crap.

+1 I replaced the two flexible brake pipes on mine whilst I had the tank off. Part number ANR5916, that's for a 1998 MY

Started first flick of the key tonight, which is a result.
Now onto the next problems......to save this thread getting to long, I'll start a new thread on the specific faults.
Thanks again everyone, and look forward to your continued and much valued input.
Cheers

Ok, makes sense.
Think I've found source of leak. Looks to be coming from behind the Black Plastic electric connection box on the side of the Fip. Oblong, match box sort of size, black colour, which I assume sends / receives details from the EDC. Held on with 3 hex head screws and one small bolt (recessed, so I guess special socket needed, or just grind one down til its thin enough to fit ;-)
I have searched site and can see loads on the general seals for the Fip, but not one for this box. Wammers has mentioned the soldered electric connections. But that's all I can find. The seal kits available for the pump, don't appear to contain that seal (not according to the diagrams anyway)
So can it be removed and resealed or not? And any idea where seal / gasket can be obtained?
Many thanks.
Bren.

The chances are it'll be the top and middle section seals.
Clean it all down and run it whole watching with a torch.
Then your pump head will need doing aswell. The part on the rear of the pump with pipes connected to it.
Manifold off again!!:p

I had cleaned it all up and was watching it from under car with an inspection lamp.

Definitely slow drip from centre of black box. That is very close to the middle seal though, so could be that.

What I don’t know is what exactly is behind the black electric box? Is there a seal behind it? Would have thought that as it’s electrical there should be some sort of seal to prevent diesel getting in there? But can’t see anything on the parts diagrams for the service kits ?

Thanks.
