So today at work I got into a heated debate with a colleague about current Defender prices .They stated that Defenders had have their day and current prices are over inflated, needless to say this rubbed me up the wrong way .My personal opinion is they will carry on to hold their value,it is true that maybe the agricultural market has been lost to the Japanese alternative but I think the market still remains strong for Defender ownership ,just wondering what peoples opinions are on this.

They over inflated and the 25 year exportable has boosted the older ones and so pushed the prices of later ones up . But i doubt they will come down much if at all and more likely just to balance out for a while , ie i recently paid more than i wanted , and so i wont sell it until i can at least get my money back , and most will do the same . a 7K landy today is not going to be worth 5K next week . Well i hope not lol .

Must be something going on, you can't get a project defender cheap any more yet series seem to go cheap for some reason, nowt wrong with a good series three:)

Yeah, they are over inflated, and totally and utterly overpriced at the moment. I mean I cannot believe some people will pay around 12-13k for a td5 90 on a galvy chassis, I've even seen a van backed 90 go for these figures and that's with over 100k on the clock! Ridiculous and no way would I spend my hard earned on something like a shabby defender that doesn't change gear properly and leaks rain on your feet!

Im speaking as a Defender owner and total enthusiast! I think prices are starting to stabilise now, but I don't see them decreasing dramatically any time soon!

Still very popular with livestock farmers here, the japanese pickups havent taken over yet. I think the 90's size may have something to do with it, and its ability to bounce off gateposts without needing a 200 quid headlight after

They have peaked and are on their way back down. Only absolute mint ones with galvanised chassis etc. will stay highish. Eventually they will all plummet along with all the other diesels as it will not be too far in the future when new emissions legislation will make them illegal to use on the road.
I agree, we are all in denial regarding this!!

I'm slowly starting to rebuild my old 3.5 v8 which will eventually be shoehorned into the 90 if diesel regs come in! :)

@marjon
Haha, I'm sort of reluctant to take my perfectly performing td5 out, but I do so little miles these days it wouldn't make a difference to me, and would be so much more fun! Might even be able to recoup some dosh if I sell the engine in good working order.... It is finding work to do though... :) :)
