Hi all,

As the title states I’m looking at options for rear seats in my new to me Range Rover Classic.
The previous owner has mounted the fuel tank inside when he bobtailed it, he has used the original tank which now lives between the load space AND where the rear seats once were. Image attached!

I want to relocate the tank and fit some rear seats, I was simply wondering if anything other than the original Classic seats will fit. I see a lot about Classic seats going into Disco’s but not vice versa, all I’m thinking is that IF disco seats were to fit they are much more readily available.

Any info or advice would be appreciated.

Cheers. 25004BC9-7389-499D-8B8D-B2F25D7F4597.png

I hope it is at least diesel and not petrol.
No separation from the occupants and fuel tank is I suspect highly illegal for road use (Construction & Use regs), unless it's a vintage car and was built that way some 100 years ago.

Even for off road use, you don't want to be that exposed to the fuel, should something happen you could end up being covered in fuel!!!

I'd say first steps are to sort the tank out, either box it in safely, or relocate it under the vehicle. Then have a look at the seating.

Thanks for the replies guys,
I must admit relocating the tank is priority, although I do consider it safe it’s never great having a car that stinks of fuel constantly.

Weighed up a few options and I think I am going to make my own tank to fit between the chassis rails and cope with the smaller fuel capacity.

@resto_d1 thank you very much, if you weren’t 4hrs away I would be all over it!

If it stinks of fuel and that fuel is petrol, it's not safe.

Must admit, it's one of the bits of EU legislation that I think is an improvement over our own.

Apart from Datatek's correct answer, how are your headaches? If you can smell fuel, you are breathing the fumes.

Maybe ;) I love the smell of the MT shed or a proper garage. However, permanent fuel fumes inside the vehicle I'm driving would be pushing it a bit far. If he can smell it, there's a leak somewhere.
No need for there to be a leak, fuel evaporates and if the tank filler is inside and has a breather hole it will fill the car with fumes.

Fair enough. Although it looks like the filler is in it's original position. Either way there are fumes.
@ the op Further to the how's the headaches, you're being incredibly selfish if you're actually driving it around like that. Others may have a different view but I'm glad I wont be the emergency services person coming to your aid, if you're involved in a crash.
On which note, I will merely say, "what a kind offer @resto_d1 , shame the op has never heard of couriers" and step out to let the experienced people talk about RRC bench seats , etc :)

As I mentioned in the original post, the previous owner put the tank in its current position and I will be relocating it. I purchased it Friday so I apologise if my exploring for options and advice from experienced forum members before undertaking the project has caused you any stress.

All responses have been light hearted and very much carry the same opinion that there must be a leak somewhere, and rip it out and start again. All except your own which queries headaches and being a member of the emergency services which will be cutting me free from the apparent flame engulfed bomb I will be driving at the time of my demise after a collision with a small sparrow.

Also the offer of a free bench seat was fantastic as I acknowledged and I must say unexpected. However putting someone in the position to package ready for courier and making themselves available is not something I am inclined to do when they do not want anything for the item in the first place. Leading me back to my original question of is there anything else that fits? A harmless question, if the answer is no then I shall seek a RRC rear bench.

“and step out to let the experienced people talk about RRC bench seats” I am sorry but that was the whole intention of the post, you sir have taken it upon yourself to make this a fuel related post.

Get back in your box.

To all other members whom have posted, I appreciate you taking the time to offer up opinions and solutions, IF I am still a member after this post I will let you all know the solution I came up with when complete. Thank you
