had one in one of my jags mate, didnt find it as much use as i thought i would get out of having one. was just good to show yer mates.

the use of such an item will, rightly so, result in you being done for driving without due care and attention

but that dont answer the question?

so you wont need to reboot it ? (it's a pc after all)

you wont be tempted to check yer email ?(cos you've found an unsecured wifi)

you wont be tempted to download yer piccies from yer diggi camera ?

sooner or later (as has happened with phones) it will be illegal to use such devices in a moving vehicle - some **** asked here a while back how to overcome the function which turns off the RR TV when it's on the move, that's an accident just waiting to happen

i still can't see why anyone would want to spend that amount of time and money installing something, the function of which could be done by something that costs a fraction and which would take seconds to install

and as for the life expectancy of the hard drive .......

each to their own i guess

and as for the life expectancy of the hard drive .......

I can just see a typical HDD loving a bit of cross-country driving while spinning at 7,000 rpm! WHHOOOOO HOOOO !!!!

sean your right about due care charge's for using something like that..

at the moment the law's gray on what you can/can't use while driving however there is recorded case's of driver's being fined and pointed for using sat navagation unit's while driving as well as car audio equipment and can's of pop..

i think its down to the copper at the scene and how bad the driver is acting while trying to use the equipment..

but i have to say there's a fair few that can't drive all ready without adding more destraction's to the car

dare i be so bold as to correct one of Mr Ys posts

it's either 5400 or 7200 - or even 10000 for a SCSI one

I was planing on not using a hard drive at all...!

some of the research work I did for london transport was for the CCTV DVR's on board, found that the hard drives couldnt hack the vibration on tickover.

so your using a SSD instead - that's another £150 on top - still cant see why you dont use a PDA running nagnav

but then as they say a fool and his money are easily parted

that may be the case, but the person I am building this for wants a bigger screen than a PDA, It work's out about the same price as a cheap laptop, but can be customised to fit the vehicle much better. opposed to slapping a laptop on the dash or slipping one in the seat pocket and using a seperate screen.

I stand corrected and educated, but whatever, I don't think many hard disk drives will last long doing cross country and a series Landy!
