Hi All,

I have a 93 Disco 200 Series MPI, which I have owned for about 2 years. Recently I replaced my clutch master and salve cylinder due to the Master leaking. All was fine for a bit but last week when accelerating at low speeds I noticed a loud squeak coming from somewhere in the clutch area. Which as it is a land rover I ignored. Now at low speed when the clutch is disengaged I get a clunking coming from what sounds like inside the clutch (almost sounds like the clutch plate is just rattling around in there). But this stops as soon as I engage the clutch. Also at speed when I let off the accelerator there is a grinding type of noise coming from the clutch. But throughout all of this the car changes gear without any issues and there does not appear to be any loss of power or clutch slippage.

Does all this mean that the clutch is dying or would this issue be something more serious like a transfer box problem? I only ask as finding a good land rover mechanic down in this part of the world is a bit difficult and the local Landy dealer charges a fortune for anything.

Thanks in advance for any help.

didnt know there was any power to loose with an MPI??

personally i would have gone with the release bearing but it happening in the reverse i.e. the clutch bearing would make a noise when you dont press the clutch and its in neutral.
maybe a finger on the pressure plate has snapped?
just shooting in the dark here like:confused:
