Hi againthat dident last long , I started it up to day smoking like a good thing blue and white .I checked the crank case breather and the valve in side it again looks good , and the hoses. oil level stable , coolant full. does any one what other tests I can do to sort this out MOT due . It starts and drives fine thanks

Blue is normally oil burning so could be valve guides or seals , white is unburnt diesel or coolant.
Can you get it plugged in to diagnostics to see if that shows anything like an injector or turbo issue.
Does it smoke all the time or only when nervous or at social events ?

This might help

You can try the icarsoft to see if it picks up any engine related faults. Could be turbo or injector related as guys already said, the leak off test will tell you if you have a fuelling problem relating to a specific cylinder / cylinders. Not sure if you get live data with icarsoft.

White smoke from exhaust can be expected on a cold start in damp or cold conditions. It is normal and should disappear when engine warms up. Blue smoke however is oil burning and could be caused by a few things as mentioned in other posts. It depends how long it lasts for, if it is constant it needs a serious coat of looking at.

Hi, started it up just now after leaving it since yesterday no smoke, will check again to morrow going to check the turbo for oil on intake in the morning

It is normal to have some oil in induction tract intercooler and hoses from turbo. However it should not be swimming in it.

Perhaps I can extend this thread. Would greatly appreciate help on this matter. I have a L322 td6. It has been sorned and only started a few times since start of covid. Yesterday I started it up and left it to idle for about 20 minutes and all ok. Then drove it for about half a mile and then came up a steep hill and parked it back in garage. That is when plumes of smelly mostly palish blue smoke came out from both exhausts - lots of it and lasted until I had to turn engine off as it was smoking us out. Any help please as very worried!.

Can I add to the above. Started the engine and removed the filler cap. no blow back or anything but was chattering quite loud. Checked dipstick - just slightly overfull and looks clean. oil changed a few months back. Any help greatly appreciated.
