There must be - when I was there I saw hundreds of 'em, all painted army green.
Seriously, though, there must be lots of Landy owners out there. I knew a chap in the hills over from Knockbracken, near Moneyreagh who was an Indy Landy mechanic with good facilities about twenty years ago. I was visiting family in North Belfast when my fuel lines began seriously leaking - D2 TD5 - and he sorted me out, despite the heavy snow and cold up in the Castlereagh hills. Hope you find some playmates.

They need a kick up the arris I think: maybe the Landy owners these days are the wives taking kids to school on the Malone and Ravenhill - shame really. Cracking place to have a real Landy - I miss the drive from Larne along the coast and drifting down to the Mournes on a weekend with the kids. Used to have a mate who ran a great chippy in Crumlin - miss them too.

Hi guys, I very recently bought a hardtop Defender 90 300TDI after suffering a year without any sort of Land Rover on the driveway. Over the years, I've used BLRC and Beyond Performance 4x4, who maintained my L320 over a period of a few years and no complaints, other than I wish I had access to an indy LR mechanic, who would defo be cheaper! I'm converting the Defender to a soft-top and looking for a tailgate; given the lack of activity on this NI forum, I'm not holding out much hope of finding one here LOL. BTW, I live near Ballymena.

Here's one

Years ago we took an old RUC landy to Bosnia - the bosses trying to save money. We had it painted deep pink (get that Nig?) It got nicked by a militia and when it reappeared some days later it had a machine gun mounted on the roof and our company stickers still on the side and screen - and was going round shooting up villages. We eventually negotiated to buy it back. However, our company name was well stuck in the minds of the locals - I think they thought we were sponsors. Personally, I had a LADA Niva and loved it - cardboard skin but brilliant off road as long as the elastic didn't break.

Sounds like a lot of fun.... like the idea of a pink RUC Landy... did it still have all the armour etc... ? A mate had a Niva many years ago and swore by it. ( and at it sometimes )

Full armour but difficult to steer. Eventually we ordered a half a dozen or so kevlar and armour plated Defenders from British Aerospace. One went down a cliff with four guys in it and they were sore heads and ok; another took about fifty rounds of AK during a sustained attack when it broke down in no-mans land alongside Sarajevo airport - two guys inside uninjured but a ceasefire had to be arranged before they were allowed to be recovered - RAC took ages haha. The Niva was very special and I wanted one when I came back - trouble-free overland mountain goat! Loved it.

Tailhook, despite their location I found BLRC helpful, knowledgeable and easy to pay. There is an indy just down from the airport behind the garage, 'johnny'. I'm told he's still operating though haven't been able to contact him recently.

Have always had a notion of using ex military landy for 'historical tours' of Belfast, fitted with AV gear and a 'soundtrack' for the occupants!!!!!!

Hi GL,
On paper, that sounds like a great idea; in practice, I'm not so sure, as it could trigger 'flashbacks' in some of the natives, resulting in who-knows-what....
A guy did run tours in an Army Humber Pig for a while, but I think that enterprise has now ceased. The daily petrol bill probably killed him. LOL

Probably a more realistic experience for the tourists

I do recall someone using a pig for stag partys!!! And a fire engine!! But still think a snatch LR or transporter would work. Taxi men may not like it though.
