Hi all,
After a bit of help with a recent purchase, it’s a 95 P38 diesel with the abs and srs lights on but with a twist....... if I take the ignition key out the srs light stays on and the abs pump purges for a few seconds every 2 minutes so as you can imagine I get a flat battery if left for more than 24 hours unless I pull the relay out.

I have trawled the forums but no luck so thought I would ask the question.

Possibly a buggered relay?
Have you tried another relay in its place, they do fail after a while... They can become stuck together and or not contact due to the little pads becoming
Dirty with age?

That’s an option but would the relay still have a live feed even though the ignitions off?

Yes there would be a live feed, relays have a live that is the power to the item it is powering and a switch live to switch on that circuit if that makes sense.

This is @martyuk territory here. Does the becm provide a ground and something m m mm... No idea what I'm talking about...
Try a different relay... Hope that helps...

Ok thank you for that, will try a different relay. I can’t help but think the 2 issues are related, seems a bit odd the srs light stays on too.

Is the ignition barrel popping all the way out when you take the key out? A blast with electrical contact cleaner and then graphite lube spray will do wonders in there.

The ECU for the ABS is easy to reach up behind the glovebox. Check for damp or water damage around the plug.

Also, take the top off the fusebox and have a good sniff for burning smells.

Thanks for that, I don’t recall the barrel popping out so will give that a go today. I didn’t realise the ABS ECU was up there, I have just redone all the plugs on the loom from below the A pillar to passenger door as nothing worked in there, the pins had all corroded due to water getting in there.

Barrel doesn't pop out the shield drops to cover the key hole. If it doesn't you will get a key in ignition warning on dash.

I had a look at the ignition and all seemed good, I squirted some contact cleaner in there just to rule it out. I also pulled the loom plug off of the ABS ECU and they are all good. So the problems still exist.

I have bit the bullet and bought a nanocom.

You'll need it one day if you keep it.

Just thought I would follow up as I hate it when no one follows up with their fix.

I stripped off the fuse box today to look for any traces of burnt tracks, I pulled every fuse and relay out and stripped as far as I could, no sign of anything out the ordinary so rebuilt it and put it back in.......problem gone so presume it was a bad earth.
