What would be a better daily runner?

I'm after a 90 or series but can't decide what would be a better daily runner? Either a petrol or diesel? I live about 5 miles from work so do about 10 miles a day.

Is there a clear choice or will it just come down to my preference?

Not that much in it, Ninety has marginally more power, and very slightly more comfortable.

If you aren't doing masses of miles, I would go with petrol. Choices would be two and a quarter in a series, or 2.5 in a Ninety. Some series have been uprated to 2.5 petrol or diesel. There were a few V8, both Series 3 and Nineties.

Most Series are now Nil VED, as they are classified as historic vehicles.

cheers pal! To be fair I never thought about that, the series would come in cheaper anyway with not paying tax and what not (dependant on age). Definitely something to think about!

I think I would go for a late Series 2a, or an early Series 3. that way you would get the free tax, and might be marginally better build quality than a later 3, or a Ninety.

What sort of budget? And are you looking for a resto, or something re-chassised and raring to go?

I like the classified ads in the back of the specialist Landrover mags, but the For Sales on the forum might be worth a look too.
Or you could place a wanted ad on the forum see what pops up.

Budget I'm hoping around £3k, don't mind a resto job at all. A bloke I work with has a Tdci (that hes making to look like an Urban Truck - and he's doing a bloody good job), a 2.5 diesel 90 and a series 3! He's just informed me he has a 2.25 petrol engine too! I might be in luck. Definitely focus on the early Series 3 I think, I've been looking on the sales pages here but the ads always seem to be old so I never know if they've been sold or not.

You should be able to get a Series 3 for that, but it might be roughish.
With the ads, if in doubt, try posting in the thread, and tagging them in the post, or even fire a PM at them.

cheers pal! I'll try and add a picture of my mates Tdci he's very proud of it (unfortunately he's 65 and cant use a computer hahaha)

If you were into LWB my choice would be a S3 stage-one V8 safari, very rare now so a good investment but even a ropey one will probably be outside your budget.
