I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again, the landy looks awesome :rolleyes:. You’re doing a cracking job of it.

As for tape, have you tried the 3m green stuff? They make three colours, white, green, blue. Budget to premium in that order. We use the green at work, as I think the blue is a bit too thick to work with.

Thanks! Been reading yours too, great thread, I'd love to get more in depth with mine like that just havnt the time and honestly can't stand driving other cars apart from my own!

It's been a long time in the making! Spent about a year thinking about what I would do, what parts to use and how to do it. Before I even had the landy, took a year to find a DCPU that hadnt been messed with. Out of the ones I found of the right year and mileage the majority had those wretched plug in maps fitted! :eek::eek: No way I was going near on of those, also me being picky I wanted an XS one :rolleyes: As this one I see myself keeping until the end of time so wanted to buy the best I could afford (got a cracking deal an all!)

Not tried the green at all, may be better. The blue is a little hard to work with but it does its job well. I only used the Frog Tape as I was pressed for time and its all bloody Wickes had! The local hardware store wanted £12 for a 50m roll of unbranded cheapo beige masking tape :eek::eek::eek: Told him he was taking the **** n left...

Cleaned all the blue off my tyres much better! I do like the white writing, I think it adds something.

Went for a drive around with the tunnel off, cant hear the odd noise at all... At this point just going to ignore it until something goes bang.

While I'm waiting for my new difflock switch and tranny tunnel screws I started thinking more about the next stage of soundproofing I want to do. Originally I wanted to clean and spray the underside of the 110 with LizardSkin then two coats of Raptor on top to protect it, however that is quite the task without a car lift!

Next best thing and should make the overall job easier is too remove the front and rear floor panels, clean them and spray them top and bottom with Lizardskin and Raptor on the bottom. Replace with new stainless screws and silicone seal in place. Should make a fairly big difference. Then I can see what is left underneath and see if its worth the effort to cover.

Also going cover the inside of the roof as well, then a layer of acoustic foam. Going to have to mask of bloody everything inside the 110 incase of overspray! I did think about using Fatmat for the roof as it would be a little easier, though price wise it came in at around £50, LizardSkin is £70 for a gallon, which should be enough to cover the roof and the front/rear floor panels. So overall cheaper, more coverage and should work better based off my experience with the doors.
 
Had a go at repairing my tranny tunnel as I wasnt sure it would actually securely fit back in! I think it came out quite well, drilled the hole over sized to make sure it lines up with my dodgy measuring :oops:

Also got bored so decided to tidy up the rotten looking grill. Carefully sanded back to bare metal, cleaned and degreased.

Then covered with two coats of Buzzwelds CIO aerosol, though like a tw@t didnt check if I had enough rivets... I didnt :rolleyes::rolleyes: so ordered more to finish it off, looks much better imo. CIO should hold up nicely to jetwashing too.

With any luck the new tranny tunnel screws and fixings arrive tomorrow so I can at least get the interior back together before I leave.

I’d like a DCPU but there doesn’t seem to be many about, and the ones that are seem to be expensive! I think I’ll end up selling mine and looking for a newer one to do it all over again with. I’m already thinking of what colour, and I haven’t even finished this one :oops:

The amount people that buy them plug in maps as opposed to getting it done properly is ridiculous. Rolling road and custom tuning is the only way I feel.

Yeah you’ve got a good example, it should last and you shouldn’t lose money with the way the market is going at the moment.

Already insured for double what I paid for it :cool:

As for tuning both my 90 & 110 where done on the open road, which I feel is a little better as it is tuned to your driving style as opposed to just "peak" figures.

Wish the bloody postman would hurry up!! :mad::mad:I want me screws!!o_O

Haha wise man! Is that on an agreed valuation kinda thing or you’ve told them it’s worth this amount and they’ve said okay?

I meant as opposed to the plug in devices, or generic file upload tuning companies :)

Ahhh yes true! Mines still a little smokey, needs too be adjusted a little but goes well

Tis the only way with any "classic" or "modified" LR IMHO. We've also had our two D1's valued professionally....

Ins co's can be such a_holes when it comes to claims that one has to protect ones interests!
 
Just noticed Ive got the same knock as I had on my 90 when cornering - Aframe bushes or balljoint are worn. Not the most difficult job now I know exactly what to do!

Thinking off fitting the Gywn Lewis wide angle balljoint any had any experience with it? Considering the unladen height of the rear I think its a worth while part.

They look lovely. I've thought about getting one myself next time mine needs doing. The fact that they can be greased and adjusted should help. They only have to last twice as long as the standard Britpart item to be worth the money.
 
Got my grill back on today with new pop rivets, looks much better!

Also got the DVD player and USB Video working on my headunit! It has a switch that is meant to be linked to the handbrake so you cant watch stuff whil driving :rolleyes: Earthed the switch now it all works!

Can watch DVDs and any MPEG2 videos on USB, not that I havnt got a Galaxy Tab2:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Also cut some of the plastic crap from out of the back, made some much needed extra space. Headunit sits much more flush now! Also stopped yanking the earth off the 12v socket so that works too now :D

and plasters for my smashed knuckles and a warning sign that reads:

Decided my speaker system needs a much needed addition! Bought myself a decent Kenwood Amp to properly run the Infinity dash speakers and the Infinity rear speakers I added (but havnt wired up, as no amp!) plus it's something I can do pretty quickly with minimal down time as need my Landy everyday (and reliably!) for once!

Going to mount it on the rear bulkhead and run the relevant wiring under the landy, into the battery box, where the power cables will connect. The RCA, signal & speaker cable will continue through the battery box, across the tranny tunnel and to their respective positions! Few hours work at the most :D


Driven a fair way now on the new Coopers and got to say worth every single penny for the swap!! The ride is better (MUCH less vibration), the noise is considerably lower, handling is vastly improved, wet weather braking and general braking are also better (less sliding under heavy braking). I can now happily sit at 70 with no worries, the vibration on the STT Pros at 70 wasn't great! Hopefully got a couple off road days in Feb where I can test em, should be places I've been before so should be able to give a good comparison.

Just need a higher ratio 5th or a Disco box and motorway cruising will almost be pleasant :eek::D:D
 
Thanks to @Litch got one of the cosmetic bits done! Wasn't over joyed spending £70+ on a pair luckily he had the one I wanted for sale! Found the finish to be a bit shiny, so rubbed it down a tad and gave it a few coats of Buzzweld PIO for a more matte finish.

Can't quite decide if I want it fitted above or below the plate, what does everyone think?

If above it matches the snow cowl on the other side but I think it would look better painted with Raptor to match.
