I am Chris joining the forum from Kenya.
I have a Freelander 2 TD4. Bought it second hand (Ex UK). It has an error that keeps coming up - Steering column locked, and then won't start ! I read on a forum elsewhere that I should try removing the battery terminals for about 5 minutes and reconnect. It worked! Joy!
Alas, short lived! The error came up roughly a month later. Battery trick did not work. Took it to the local dealer.
Long story short, it was in and out 3 times after which I told them off. It seemed it was some guess work they were doing (and it was costing me huge sums!!!).
Took it to another garage. They replaced that steering lock mechanism. Error still comes up but at least the car starts on the second or third attempt at starting. Surprisingly, just got a call from them as I was writing this. They say I take it back Monday (27 Nov) to have the ECU reprogrammed. Will keep you posted.
