Classic led dome

Hi guys - I hit on the idea of replacing the standard festoon bulbs in the dome interior lights with LED items as the originals get very hot especially if the top tailgate is left open for any period of time, such as when having a tail-gate lunch & subsequently the plastic domes tend to discolour. I know what size I need (the originals are 37mm but the market is either 36 or 38) but do I need the same wattage (21w) in LED or are these brighter than the incandescents ?

Much brighter I should think. 5 watts led is approximate equivalent to 21 watts I think

Not a rangie but relevant. I thought I'd do the same thing with my 200Tdi disco.
Pulled up at halfrauds and bought an led festoon bulb, so excited I fitted it in the car park and instantly blew a fuse. Tried again with fresh fuse, same thing again. Took the offending article back and got a refund. In a bit of a hurry by then so didn't bother trying others, just gave up.
Don't know why that should be happening.

Had no issues with the LED ones I got off the Bay. Cheap and much better than the old tungsten ones.

I don't know why a LED bulb should blow a fuse, they draw a lot less power than a standard bulb. I can only assume that both bulbs were faulty. Was you your interior lamp working with the old bulb?

Yes working fine, I was actually on the way to the ferry back over to france, thought it would be a win/win to change to led's as then when waiting at the ferry terminal I could have enough light to read me book.

Finally got around to retrofitting these items & what a difference! The LED's make the original festoons look like glow-worms, but it would seem that the new bulbs do require a good contact though. Whereas the originals will still work when the fit is like a p...k in a bucket you need to bend the light contacts if needed to achieve a good tight hold on the LED bulbs.

That should save the eyes on the local peeping toms when you go dogging.

Just put some in my 92 classic, 2.8W and also required a tweak to the contacts, the white light seemed a bit strange at first compared to the yellow glow, good upgrade though

I got a pack of 10, soldered 3 together and used them in each internal light fitting. No fuse problems but great light output!

Just fitted a pair from Paddocks in my classic and they are uuummmm brilliant
no, really brilliant, like, they are brilliant. now gonna fit some in me 90.
