You need to check ht lead sparking with insulated pliers to and then the test procedures in rave with a multi meter. Probably iffy coil or amplifier.

Checked the coil? Is the amplifier on the side of the distributor? A known issue with that placement is that heat will eventually damage the amplifier.. you can get a remote amp that places where the coil sits.

Also check the distributor see how much play there is in the rotor arm

I have put a plug on the lead that comes out of the coil and then +ve to the positive side of the coil then taken the -ve side of the coil down to ground I get sparks on the -ve side of the coil and a week spark at the plug

When the ignition is turned on there is power at the +ve side of the coil.

On the dizzy there is a little black box with two plug in connectors one a single spade the other a waterproof connector with two spade connectors at 90 degrees to each other

The rotor arm looks to be in good condition with no slop

what do you think?

that's the amplifier, it goes bad if you replace it. replace it with the remote amplifier
