hi guys discovery td5 auto xyz fault

where do i begine started on road going into limp mode flashing m +s lights then i purchased the hawkeye total witch said it was the selector swithch so took old one apart and cleaned it fitted it and still the same so i purchased a new xyc switch £330.00 pound later fitted it and still the same will not erase code as its a perminant fault also the light on dash showing gear is not lighting and the one on gear selector inside car also when i try to pull of it feels like its stuck in posible 2 or 3 gear also removed ecu found oil in plug cleaned all that and ecu but still wont clear code land rover wont help so im hopeing you guys can help me out as im 600 pound out of pocket all ready with switch and machine so much appreciate some guide guys thankes
