its true, last week my son bought a motor on ebay, but it was situated in Dagenham, so he asked if we could go and collect it in, wait for it, the gaylander!!! bear in mind that we live in gods country, yes YORKSHIRE and the thought of taking it on a motorway etc for such a long trek added more grey hairs to the already balding head, but as its got the peace of mind of breakdown rec service{the bloody car that is}i thought go on then and guess what? not a hiccup, 460 MILES trouble free in one long journey including a 4 mile queue of crawling traffic on the A1 not a slight overheating blip + approx 35 mpg. christ these are good motors, and not one seen dying on the hard shoulders either, was i the only gaylander out on Sunday4 Nov?

Oopps sorry Gman, no only on this site, but the motor my son bought is a vectra 2.5 v6 Gsi and what a beast. so nice the wife wants to get one as well, dare i shift my silver G/Lander? for the right price me thinks so.

i thaught you might be someone from another forum i go on, he has the same name........ flog the gaylander and get a tratta, and with the money saved on repair bills you could get a cool General motors product like a manta (if you really want a vaux)

Its one thing wanting to sell a G/L but another getting the money spent on the thing back, or do we cut our losses and give someone else the benefit of our experience and cost of ownership?

Thats if you can sell it.There are alot of second hand freelanders on the market so the price is getting lower and lower. No money to be had when parting with a hippo.Just think about the saveings you will make,no more big bills.

true, but when it runs ok! its not a bad motor, a bit like the misses or is it the wife? don"t which has cost more.

Thats true. Its all about where you draw the line.Do you fix the problem then sell,or do you try and sell with the problem??? or do you just keep going year afer year putting more and more money to it as it just ant worth selling because of market values??

Take my 2001 td4, 151000miles on the clock, whineing ird, whats it worth?? not alot.So it must make sense to fix and keep doesnt it ???

a neighbour of mine just shifted a 03 tdi G/L for 6k best he could get from a stealer, now owns an 57 plate toyota crew cab fully loaded, doubt he will loose as much on this one in 4 years.

True enough. The money you spent buying the car in the first place is pretty much dead money. Then it becomes a law of economics. Sure the repairs might be £1000, but what sort of car could you get for a £1000 ? If you get it repaired, least your still driving a car you know and love (hate)

you should have more faith in the gaylander, been to whitby twice in mine from kent(360 miles each way) and went to wales in her this year and it's never missed a beat, oh it's the 1.8 petol one i have as well. they are no where near as unreliable as some of the doom mongers on here would have you think:)

int it funny how hippo owners tell of their 720 miles trips as if it's proof that they havent actually got a pants LR

Not quite a trans african safari is it though. Kent to whitby. doesn't have the same impact as London to Singapore. or Sydney to Alice Springs. or even lands end to John O'Groats.

Ive done north of spain to south of portugal ( in a day approx 1100 miles each way) with no problems and also north of Spain to wales towing a box trailer( again in a day and approx 1200 miles ) only problem i had on that journey was the top heater hose some how managed to get stuck to the back of the turbo and i had to do an emergency repair, until i got a piece of hose from halfords and replaced it.this was just outside london on the return journey and i still had to get back to Spain, well she made it and is still running fine, with the same hose, i didnt bother changing it to a landrover part as it works fine.
I have had a ****e couple of weeks with silly things gong wrong and on another thread i did say i was gonna change it......BUT it would only be for a Defender or a Disco and only because i need some extra seats....Also i do take The freelander off road and am well pleased with it, for general day to day, i dont think you can go wrong and they do get some ****E on here but
What else can you buy that will tow a 8x4x5 box trailer, drive through 2 overflowed rivers, take you over the french pyreenes with said trailer on snow and ice, and still average 35 to the gallon....
LETS HERE IT FOR WHAT I THINK IS THE MOST UNDERATED LANDROVER THERE IS......
BTW i got a 1999 L series...
Cheers
D
