hank you. Neilly. I have crack on cylinder 1. The turbo went and the engine revved uncontrollably.. it's in the garage now. They have told me it needs a new engine.
they have two scenarios:
Fit a second hand engine from someone they know that has done 139k miles.. (2k)
Fit a reconditioned engine (5K)
My old engine had only done 105k. Am gutted. Not sure what to do.

There are a few TD5 engines around which mainly seem to come from Discoveries with rust problems, but it is like so many things there are good and bad, ultimately its your decision but if you can find a good reputable place who are willing to give you some kind of back up - warranty it would be best.
There are a couple of known problems to beware of i.e the cylinder heads sometimes crack in the injector pockets, and the oil pump drive bolts have been known to let go and wipe out the engine, take care on these points.
By the way your engine should be a 15P or later the earlier 10P engine is different and would require more changes to fit.

Or, if you have the dosh and only want to do the job once, I'd go to Turner Engineering, and get a recon engine from them, with the better Spanish manufactured head. If mine ever gives up, that's who ill go to go sure. They are top dollar, but the best I the business!! good luck whatever you choose to do!

Sorry to hear this. Diesel runaway is a nightmare, the sound of a big diesel revving at 8000 would have me running for the hills, did you manage to stall it out or did it just let go?

I have never bought one but I bet there are a few people on here who may be able to recommend or warn you off from their own experience, bought some bits from gentlemen of salvage and they seemed to be okay, but never anything like a full engine.
