I've a 2006 Discovery 3 with the standard goose neck style towbar fitted and have recently purchased the adjustable multi-height type Land Rover one for it. However I don't have the key for the original goose neck one on the Discovery in order to remove it first so I can install the new one!!!!!!!!!

Does anybody know how to remove the towbar since I don't have the key for it???????????

I went into the local Land Rover dealer and the service foreman said it can't be ordered brand new and the only way is "to batter it off"..... He said they had to do a couple like that breaking the green handle that turns.....

I heard from a friend that it might be possible to remove it by dropping down the spare wheel and it could be opened using possibly an alan key but I don't know how accurate that is. I do believe that it is possible to remove it this way but it's not published on the internet or anywhere due to theft reasons but it is possible!

Can anyone help me????

I got sorted but I do believe for security reasons the procedure cannot be posted on the web!

The new multi-height hitch is a great job, very strong, tightened the bolts up using the air gun so it it'll not go anywhere!

hi eatcustard

could you PM me how you did this please. I have the same problem but I want to remove the height adjustable tow bar and fit the removable swan neck. The car came without the key and the dealer won't help me!

Thanks

Simon

Sorry, but I know nothing about the D3 tow bar.
