As you may know people, still having a right game getting this 300tdi engine mated to a standard r380 defender box. I'm pretty sure it's the spigot bush.

Can anyone give me some advise on reaming the spigot bush? I've used a genuine land rover item, but I'm pretty sure it's too tight. How can I go about reaming it because I realise due to it fitted in the crank by interference fit, the I.D shrinks.

I have no access to reams etc or advanced measuring equipment, however a friend may be able to help if I knew the size I need to ream too?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hi Josh !
Do you have a DRILL? Do you have a VICE ? Do you have a HACKSAW ? Do you Have some EMERY TAPE? Do you have a OLD BOLT ?

Steve

Obvious question: Is it the correct bush that you have fitted?

I put a new one into our V8 flywheel and it was fine, there's no mention of reaming or machining in the manuals.

Peter

I've got a spare if you want it?

Thanks again chaps. As you can tell this project isn't going smoothly. I've used 8566L Or lfb500050 as the part number, pretty sure it's right.

Thanks marmaduke , ordered another one before I saw this. I damaged the one I'm having trouble with today trying to extract it to see if it fitted on the gearbox shaft. Probably not the best idea. (Not thinking straight with frustration haha)

Got another genuine land rover one turning up tomorrow. Ive ordered 2, doubt there will be size differences but you never know. I'll offer it up on the gearbox shaft before I drift it into the crank I think.

I'm a bit worried that you're having this much trouble here - in that whilst getting the shaft to mesh into the clutch can be awkward - it really shouldn't be this hard....

Once you have the spigot bush out, I think I'd be making damn sure the GB fits the engine/clutch combo - then, and only then, worry about the bush.

I hope its something simple :)

Just like to say a big thank you for everyone's help on this.

Fitted another genuine land rover bush and reamed it very slightly, checked how it felt on input shaft and pressed it into crank. Re fitted clutch and literally 5 minutes later it was mated to the gearbox.
Couldn't believe how easily it went together. Like a glove!

Let's just hope it runs well now. Thanks again

Well done, if it doesn't start I'll come and torch the bloody thing :p
