Hi guys, hoping someone could help me or point me a right direction

I'm running a series 3 with a disco 200tdi engine, rangerover axles etc.

The steering is alright in small lock both ways until I go round corners and the steering yucks all of a sudden, it feels like the steering wheel isn't conected! It seems to be worse the harder I put it in lock
I jacked the front up and turned the steering wheel whilst the engine was running and the steering feels grumbly and slightly tight? All the track rods and ujs seem good I tried to check the swivel grease and can't get the filler nuts off! So not sure about how full they are yet. The power steering fluid is okay. So if anyone has a solution it would be greatly appreciated

I would also advise us on what steering it has -disco? S3?
If it's on coils or leafs, that sort of stuff.
 
I'm new to all this haha right o will do thanks. :rolleyes: For the reccord it's disco steering and on coils with a 2" lift , body lift etc :D
 
The first thing to do then is disconnect the drop arm from the linkage and with the wheels off the ground you can check if the nastiness is in the column/ujs/box OR in the linkage/cv's etc. Then come back with what your findings are.
 
Also check things like your lock stops to make sure tyres aren't rubbing on the radius arms at full lock. You need about 20mm minimum clearance due to tyre flex.
 
Right I'll have a look later, I did notice that when in full lock one way, what you could feel the tyers scrubbing. Thanks for the suggestions!
 
Right got a update! So later today I dropped the drop arm off and all the ujs at the top seem fine and there's not a mega amount of play in the steering box? However when I jacked the front up this morning I noticed one of the wheel bearings at the front had a little amount of play in it? -

could this be the cause of this? I wouldn't have thought it would have done but that's just me :rolleyes:
 
Now you need to move the wheels from lock to lock feeling for weirdness , it won't be easy to move but should be smooth non the less.get under and have a good lock while someone turns the wheels too, see if anything is getting caught up, try disconnecting the damper, it may be seized.
How did you check the UJ's? They tend to seize up creating weird non centering steering I've found. You really need to disconnect them from the box and dodgy ones are easier to find then. Soaking them in thin oil normally improves tight ones.

I did disconnect them they all seem to be moving alright not any play, I'll have a look tomorrow then I've got a little more light. And report back!
 
Bit of a update, so yesterday I had it on a ramp, and found the swivel bearings had nearly completely dropped to bits :eek: which explained a lot of death wobble :rolleyes: thanks for the help guys
