Following on from a thread checking types of fuel pump. Mine has been failing to start and showing a P1260 code. Low fuel pressure LP.

So rather than just changing the pump, I temp connected an indicator lamp on the pump feed - 2 scotchlocks and small 12v lamp on lead shut in bonnet edge - so visible from in car.

Of course, it then performed perfectly until this morning, I wanted to see if the pump was failing or if some other fault was switching it off (pressure sensor or other wiring fault). When the car failed to start the indicator lamp was lit. Tapping the fuel pump resolved the starting problem. The pump is also noisier and is providing only 350 psi as opposed to 390 when the readings were recorded with the car working properly. Carsoft I930 data.

So that concluded that it was the pump and not a wiring fault with some certainty. New pump and filter on order.

I think that the P1260 code also puts the car into reduced performance mode, presumably so that it can run with the reduced fuel pressure. It is hard to tell if it is the result of this code or the faulty pump but the car is definitely sluggish. Will report back when changed pump.

Was there a check engine light?

So pump and filter replaced (underbonnet) - nice and maintenance friendly job that was ! Accessed lower fuel pump clip through wheel arch having released the assembly from the inner wing.
LP has jumped from 350 to 413 psi or is it KPA (my icarsoft has no units specified on this reading) and HP has gone from 28,650 to 30,700 KPA

Happy TD4...........

Nice one. I've just bought a Pscan unit as it covers my Td5 as well as the wife's Td4. Hoping to scan the Td4 this weekend and hopefully solve poor starting, slow pullouts from junctions and reduced mpg.

MAF and fuel pump big suspects. Where do you go to find typical values for diagnostic readouts?

Took many readings off my 3 TD4's while they were all working. Have asked for a forum 'data page' but not seen it yet. If you search Carsoft i930 readings you'll see some to get you understanding what is measurable. Happy to share my spreadsheet if it helps.

Hi sorry to bother I don’t know if it’s right place or not to ask questions i have landrover freelander I just bought i bought faulty it’s say P1260 code i change fuel filter and fuel pump but it’s still showing same problem I don’t know if it’s fuel pump still no good or what should i do thank you so much also i change high pressure fuel pump and sensor but still show same problem i can start on easy start but it won’t start without easy start thank you

Before changing things and spending loads of cash, what year is your TD4. Some had one lift pump, others have 2.
Where is the pump that you changed is it in the engine bay or the rear wheel arch?
P1260 is almost always to do with fuel delivery. Let us know and we'll try to help.

The technical forum for Freelanders is a good place to post your question yes !!

Hi thank you for quick respond i change the one is on back wheel on right side and i change high pressure fuel pump on engine but still same i can hear pump making noise but still not running I don’t know what els to do with it it’s still show me same code every time p1260 it’s 2003 2.0 bmw engine

O.K so yours has one lift pump which you have changed and you can hear it running. It would be good to get the Low Pressure and High Pressure fuel readings from a diagnostic pump, but another obvious one is the fuel rail pressure sensor connection. It gets corroded and so the electrical connections are poor.
It is on the battery end of the fuel rail, release the clip and unplug, clean contacts on the sensor and the plug and replace.
You may strike lucky !! Otherwise you'll need some diagnostic pressure readings.

Yea i did check that still same today i start one time it’s start after i stop it i try to start again won’t start again i leave it little bit and i try again it’s start again and i try again I couldn’t start again it’s just enjoying I don’t know what more to do with it
