I guess this has been done to death, but filled the old girl up tonight £70.00,to the top and 370 miles later,
so would I be right in saying swmbo is getting 27-28 mpg just driving short trip round town, which if correct I find amazing
Td5 auto driven slowly :)

What do you guys think/get?

Cheers Neil

Yeah, she gets overtaken by milk floats:D,
So I guess it's pretty good.
I know this is probably meant to go into its own thread, but what simple mods improve drivability

when i first gone mine it was doing around 17mpg

but after i struggled getting up a hill i removed the map sensor that was blocked solid and sounded as though the engine was being flooded

but now goes up to around 26-27 on a run ,

around 21-22 around town , it still got to do a full service and egr blank

may get a map done at some stage , as i see it's suppose to improve the mpg and smooth running

D1 200tdi

Mid to high 30's With local & motorway driving (had a 25mile commute on m4 to work so sat@ 60ish)
Towing Hoss box & driving like a looon obviously somewhat worse:oops:

Rich.

High 30's from a Tdi?? Suspect either an ODO error or miscalculation. Land Rover rated them in the 20's. And they wouldn't have done if they could get high 30's.

LR claimed 30mpg for tdi manuals. Mid 30s isn't unbelievable with mostly steady motorway miles.

My 2.0 Focus returns 30mpg if I'm light footed around town and up and down the hills. Taking it easy on the motorway it's more like 45mpg.

Really going for it like i stole it won't return 20mpg.

Driving normally and booting it a couple of times to overtake can increase consumption 4/5 mpg on a 15 mile journey.

Having an instantaneous and average readout has been a real eye opener as to how much difference driving type and style can make.

that's what i've quickly learned in mined , in having the mpg display

when i first had it , was showing around 17mpg which i felt on the motorway at 60 was a tad low, also felt as though it was hanging back , but then after cleaning out the map sensor got 21 it did at one stage around 55mph went up to 27mpg , which to be honest am pleased about

think i might squeeze a few mpg when i do the egr bypass, maybe 1-2 mpg but think i will notice it more around town and know when i done the bypass on the hippo it helped and improved the smoothness and torque of the engine

don't know if it's worth fitting a synergy on this d3 , but was impressed with the last one , some go for remaps

Mine is an auto TD5. 350 mile cruise to past Inverness in the summer got nearly 34mpg. Overall on 1,500 miles of cruising and low speed low gear bits in some very hilly parts and some round town driving in Dundee and Edinburgh returned just over 28mpg. It's a low mileage example but I was more than happy with the result. It's not a performance car so I don't drive it like one.

My D1 300tdi returns 33mpg. I usually trundle down the motorways with the trucks at 60-65ish, rather than battle with the road warriors in their German death machines.

I completely agree driving style can make a huge difference. And I also agree a well driven Tdi D1 with all the factory aero aids and no smoke (usually ones that are less peppy) will do over 600 miles on a tank. Which is low to low/middish 30's.

But high 30's, as in 38-39mpg. Unless you are being towed by the AA man, I just can't see it happening.
