Hello all I have just signed up to site to see if anyone can help . My landy was running perfect till I had it serviced then noticed a small occasional misfire nothing too serious at first but as week went on developed in to a issue so had mechanic to take a look it would rev up perfectly when not under load but when being driven up hill would miss seriously . He fitted a new fuel pump pressure regulator and it is now running worse than ever especially around 2000 rpm but strangely rev counter does not fall that much even when it is missing he says we now need to change pressure bar relief valve . will this cure problem as I am getting desperate as need my landy to do my job and hoping someone on here might recognise the problem and suggest a cure

Sadly this is a common post on the Transit Connect forum. Some have had the issue since new, with Ford unable to sort it.
You might do well to have a look on the Transit forum for advice, some have fixed it others tearing their hair out :)

Im not sure on the l/r tdci lumps, but it was quite common to have a transit in the workshop with slipped timing chain due to stretch, if you have a look at some google images you will see its a really poor design and has been modded several times

Already read the transit forum nearest I can come to same problem as I am having is the change of fuel filter possible cheaper replacements don't bond well with TDCIs Going to go see mechanic see if he's still got old filter or maybe buy a original part .
Has anyone ever changed fuel rail relief bar valve and had success

By the way thanks for comments

Pattern fuel filters seem to be an issue on the D3 diesels,, Ive tried most of them including britpart/mahle/delphi and not had an issue with any of them so far.
Might be worth the spend on a genuine one then at least you can write it out of the trouble shooting
As for your mech having the old one, hes probably lobbed it into his filter bin or waste oil container and it really would not be wise to refit it to a very expensive common rail diesel.
Have you got access to a diagnostic tool to what the fuel pressure is when it misfires?

Please excuse my ignorance in my limited knowledge What is a d3 diesel but yes it has ben on a diagnostic tool it dropped instantly from 74 down to 4

Sorry D2 is disco 2, D3 disco 3 and D4 disco 4, theres also a 5 now out, there is of course a D1 but as they have nearly all rusted away they dont matter!

I guess I should have said from what Ive read some pattern fuel filters can cause issues with fuel supply/flow so it may be better to stump up for an oe one.

If pressure is dropping it could be a supply issue and not just caused by the fuel filter, either low pressure pump or the expensive high pressure one, again these do fail on the D3 but it seems to be pretty rare, the low pressure pump seems to go more often which was also an issue on the D2 models.

Possibly unrelated but a guy at work recently had an issue with his 2.0 tdci mondeo non start and it turned out to be the flywheel, again maybe something to look into with the crank sensor and an oscilliscope, apparently its very common and the local ford dealer and local garages have seen it a lot.

Don't know if its relevant but mine is a Defender not a Discovery

No I realised that as disco never had tdci lump but mentioned it as the D3 and 4 are common rail as are just about all diesels nowadays.
Just had another thought if its the same filter as transit I can recall issues with the sealing o ring.

Thanks for your help will investigate tomorrow . its progressively got worse over last 4-5 days to the extent I daren't go far in it at all now

Turns out it was the regulator that I had purchased cheaply of e-bay £40 that was faulty. After fitting a new land rover one all is back ok now . Expensive lesson learnt  Thanks to lads who replied
