Its getting close to the point where I will be buying a new injun, im buying in bits for an upcoming rebuild.
200TDI's for defenders seem to be more expensive than 300's, why is this? I cant really be arsed fitting a disco motor unless its a 300 but I take it disco and fender r380's are different?.

Supply and demand. Everyone wants 200s (especially defender versions) to fit to older models, and there aren't many rusty Discos left to pillage now. 300s aren't as popular for conversion as there's a bit more work involved.
 
What are parts like for 200's? Still available? Most 200's nowadays will need a rebuild.
 
No problem for parts, not that I have needed much for my 200 tdi engine, but when searching for stuff there is plenty available. If you do a search you will find several places that sell reconditioned Defender 200tdi engines.
 
200 def engines are worth at least double what a 200 disco engine is.
200 def engines always look right as thats what they were designed for, the 200 disco always looks bodged in one department or another.
All main engine parts available.

Could the manifolds from a 19J be fitted to a 200 block? If so that would solve some plumbing issues that have to be overcome when fitting a disco 200 to a 90/110.
 
I think that's what I have fitted. I can post some pictures actually, while theres some interest, if anybody wants to see? I'd like to know what I actually have and hopefully somebody can identify.
 
Would be interesting to take a look. IIRC the turbo on a 19J runs at a lower pressure than the tdis, but the wastegate can always be adjusted to suit. The exhaust should then match straight up. People have fitted intercoolers to 19Js so the intake side of things could be set up well enough on a 200tdi.
