have this 1.8 freelander 3-door. rear windscreen washer is not working but the wiper is. I have checked the pipes for possible leakages and everything seems ok.The fuse is also not blown . please advise where the motor for the rear washer is located in order to check the wiring and so on.!!!

can you hear the pump run? its located in the washer bottle behind the front bumper on the o/s

if the pump is working then take the spare wheel off followed by the carrier.
you'll see the pipe dissappear through a grommet in the tail door, pull the grommet out and in the pipe, you'll see a one way valve, disconnect the pipe at the valve and operate the washer, if water comes out then the valve is blocked, blow the valve out with compressed air or throw it away and fit a small piece of tube to connect the two pipes together.

This may sound a stupid question but is the water bottle full? I had the same on my recently aquired FL and went down the route of checking fuse, removing spare wheel to get to pipe etc only to find nothing wrong. I gave it up as just one of those things I'd have to live with. Then, I filled the bottle up (shares the same as the front washers) and tried it again and it burst into life! I have since run the water low and it stopped working again even though the front washers still work. Again I topped up the front bottle and it worked again. I can only assume (as haven't bothered looking) that the pump for the rear window is at a higher position on the bottle than the front washers.

Give it a go and let us know!

Thank you very much guys for your advises !! CLUTCHDUST, your tip on the location of the water bottle helped a great deal .But guess what, on locating the water bottle, I found that the piping had dislocated from the tip on the bottle motor. Mine was just to replace it, fill the bottle with water and it WORKED like magic. Thanks !!!!!

Hello,

I have this same problem. I have checked all the obvious and have done watch clutchdust suggested, by checking the one way valve and appears to be clear.

There is not even a drop of water coming out from the pipe once the valve has been disconnected.

Is there any other known areas to check, before I remove the front bumper to check the pipe at the pump end.

Many Thanks

Nigel

had the fun u had , but mine was the one way valve, which I removed

if my memory serves me right which I doubt there is two motors in the washer bottle, one for the windscreen and one for the rear

wonder if u can get to the motor , by swapping the hoses over so u can see if both motors have gone or just one

as I assume the windscreen one works and by swapping the hoses over u can see if u can get water out the rear washer, thus if it works , know then one of the motors has failed

have u put a multimeter on the motors first to ensure there's no break in a wire

also had to put a foot pump through mine as it had crap in it

don't know if that any help to u

Thanks for the reply.

Good idea about testing the motors, which I may do if I have to remove the front bumper. Though I can hear both the motors for the front and rear wash systems, and they don't sound any different at the moment.

I am wondering if there are amy more valves or kinks in the pipes in the system at all, as it was working and then just decided to stop, on the same journey :(
