It would have been the gentlemanly thing to do but no. He arrange to have several people view a few minutes apart. Annoyingly it was pretty much what I was after at a price I was happy to pay.

personally i don't care, it can pull a horse box with my two ponies, it can traverse my paddock without getting stuck and its bloody warm and comfy. if i wanted to plough my paddock i'd have got a tractor,(defender) lol freelander for comfort and practicality defender for proper off road lol

Haha not actually true the heater is fine you just have to set it up properly I often have to turn mine off.
Water still comes in the doors though
lol, wanted a defender but what i want and my budget where two very different ends of the scale lol. if i decided to buy a car when i had a small winfall, (ppi claim) then 2500 would have been the number, as i gave the mrs 1k to keep her sweet first lol.
i was going to go to america for christmas, lifelong dream to visit states and new yoik at christmas, awesome.
by the time i'd replaced air rifles phones etc etc i'd left myself with a budget of 1050. and any defender costing that sort of money is either to old, or has many dings dents scratches and parts needing repairing or replacing lol.
as far as defender heaters go, i thought you had to change the viscous fan for an electric to stop it from keeping engine cool, or cover front grill ice road trucker style lol

plus being a lanky tw@t at 6'3'' i find the driving position a wee bit cramped. not sure on fuel economy of discoverys, but would have wanted a similar year in similar spec to my freelander, and that would be more than i paid for the freelander, plus i expect fuel economy to be lower, and that was a big part of the decision to get rid of maverick (22mpg at best) 18 avg. if going for disco would have been easier to put 250 into the mav and keep that and go to usa, but 950 for a 2001 freelander td4 is less than book, more than trade but from lro magazine, i got a good deal for a freelander. and it can tow 2000kg, or a horse box and ponies. good enough . mav could pull 2500 but bigger engine and vehicle.
most of all i'm chuffed to bits with it. until i get stuck on a nursery lane lol
i have a 4x4 that needs nothing doing. feeling lost. not used to trucks that don't need SOMETHING doing, and sunroof is iffy, but haynes manual suggests land rover dealer as to complex and won't even give instructions on removal. gits.

Well... Not wishing to start an argument or anything, but I've got a Jeep Grand Cherokee (3.0 v6 diesel) as well as the Freelander, and it's every bit as good. But that's just my opinion.

I got a call this morning from the vendor. Apparently the seller from yesterday has pulled out due to his wife saying he has too many car's!! Now I'm wondering if he saw something in daylight he didn't like?
Unfortunately I will also have to look at it under torch light as I'm working until the weekend.
Past Mot history shows lots of silly failures for bulbs and tyres. This tells me that it's not been maintained to a very high standard. If it's sent to the Mot with bald tyres and failed bulbs, what else has been skipped?
I'll look tonight and see what's what.

are you saying the jeeps as good as the freelander lol
poss fair story about to many cars, but when you add the history of mot advisories / failures i'd be doubtfull? get a rac or aa check done on it first?

I have had 2 different engines in the same defender one viscous and one electric and both have produced good heat - it's in the air box setup and making sure the thermostat is working properly.

No, it's far superior to the Freelander. It was a toss up between a Range rover, a Disco4, a Toyota Land cruiser and the Jeep. All fantastic to drive and all had good points and bad. But the Jeep won hands down on equipment, power and towing weight vs price. Those new Landies are way expensive for what you get, pricing themselves out of the market IMO. Also had a go in an AMG G Wagon, amazing piece of kit, but the price!! Still going to keep the Freelander though. Had it over a decade now and I just love it, would break my heart to sell it. And it's handy to have as a backup for pulling the caravan, as the only downside to the Jeep is parts can take a while to get.

Expensive too though for such an unrefined vehicle. I must admit, my D3 is awesome in a way that the Freelander simply can't match both off road and on it. However it's an expensive vehicle to maintain and is simply to fragile for my liking. Hence I'm going to return to a Freelander.
i got this cause i don't off road to much, can't afford the fuel to enjoy myself lol, and my old truck was pants on diesel ON THE ROAD, like really pants OFF ROAD
This rover is more refined than my old maverick, better ride and comfort, can pull what i need, 1/2 tonne less than the maverick overall, and is so much better on fuel.
only down sides, less luggage room, mav was lwb and third seat row taken out and sold
off road capabilities compared to mav 2h 4h 4l box and extra ground clearance
2 tonne max towing capacity (braked) compared to mavs 2.5 tonne
plus sides, better fuel economy on the road comparison is 34mpg over 22-26 ish (mav)
leather. oh so comfy heated leather,
remote central locking, both had electric everything, freelandy got foldable mirrors,
smaller lighter, looks better, electric rear window for dogs, or throw a rope out lol
remote cd player 6 disc YAY, better interior, better engine.
could go on lol

Did your Mav have the diesel engine or petrol ? If it was the diesel you should a kept it as it can run on 100% svo at 45ppl as the wife has 1 been running it for 6 years now, sometimes wish my p38 was diesel as they can run on svo as well

My Maverick was by far the most reliable vehicle I've ever had and far from bad off road, definitely better than a Freelander. Mine was the intercooled 2.7 turbo diesel. It was ok on fuel at around 28 Mpg and had enough go for motorway use. It was also rated to pull 2.8 Ton and did so effortlessly. I did almost 100,000 miles in that vehicle and it had 60K on it when I bought it. The only thing that broke in all those miles was a clutch flexy pipe. I found that tin worm was it's main enemy as the chassis slowly disintegrated under the rust free body. I sold it as scrap after 6 years of ownership, due to rust. Mechanically it was still perfect. It was a fantastically reliable vehicle let down by bad quality steel that was badly painted from new.
