Disco 1 So i fitted a 2" lift ......

Hi Guys
Fitted a Terrafirma 2" lift kit ( HD Springs and Shocks)

all went well but.....
How tight do i do the top bolt on the front shocks?
i'm getting vibration when decelerating , i'm sure it's the shocks moving a tad , but not sure how tight to tighten them as i can find no torque settings. I have given it a good pull down until the rubber has doughnuted right down it's better but still there, and if i loosen the nut off a tad it definitely gets worse.

Thanks Haigy. I checked them again tonight, i cant get them any tighter, and i have monkey strength lol

Vibration could be prop. A lift will have changed the pinion angle of the diffs.

just done same as you but medium duty shocks and springs , fitted a steering damper at same time mine seems ok , think if it were me i would take your props off and check your ujs and make sure grease it when its off and see if there is any notchyness , good luck

I wouldnt remove props just get underneath grab it with 2 hands and shake all ways you can if it uj itl move. Then do the same at all 4 joints 2 on each prop

I also put a lift on about a month ago.. didnt research anything...

I have since, taken the rear prop off and swapped it out for a v8 prop (£40 with the rear flange) the doughnut will last you about 4 weeks MAX! you should be feeling a wobbling up to 30mph as it deforms.

I also had to change both UJ's in my front prop, you dont want to see how bad they were! but you should check them, alot of my noises went.

Is your noise coming after 50mph when deceleerating?? like a weird grinding?

I don't egt any wobble at all accelerating or driving at speed ( haven't gone faster than 70)
it's only when i decelerate ( off brakes) and around 10-15 mph i get a juddery rumbling from the front end. a bit like going over very close speed strips in the road

I was looking at a wide angled front prop to get, and i'll look t the rear as well

Yeah. I got that too. It was the rear drive. If you take a peak back there and see the angle that doughnut it has to deal with you would agree.. unless you are going for more than 2" there would be no need for a wide angle to be honest.
An upgrade to a 2000 TD5 defender front prop is a plus if you were going for reliability and torque capabilities but until you really push the lift I would spend it on grease and oil. Maybe some steel plate for your body work.

I sourced my rumbling and knocking's by taking the front off.. putting it in diff lock and driving, and vice versa. Worth it to put your mind at ease.

A wide angle prop wont help you with a wobbling from the prop as it just stops binding at more extreme articulation. You do risk exposing these little issues when you lift older cars as lots of things are already a bit shagged and a lift just puts stress on them. New UJs is a given as is, as suggested above, ditch the POS donut. Either a 200tdi flange or one from v8 plus the corresponding prop will do the trick. Did you do caster correction? Some say its needed over 2" lift only but again, it does differ and this could cause wobbling.

No didn't do caster correction.
Don't suppose you have part numbers for props etc
Mines a 300tdi auto. Want to make sure i order the right bits

Ebay buddy. Just look for 200tdi rear prop or v8 3.9, you want the 4 bolt flange with uj on each end of prop and a flange to suit on pinion of diff. Ujs on ebay or paddocks etc but do only buy gkn or hardy spicer branded ones the bearmach ones are easily broken when fitting and wont last as well

Bit of a update, had a look late yesterday afternoon at the dougnut as i have a long drive today and found it to be splitt all over. Panic set in as i didnt want to risk a drive, so a quick trip to dingocroft ( only 30 mins away and i got there just before close) and picked up a new gnk one.
3o mins to fit, drives like a dream.m
Will keep u all updated on how long that lasts

That may be the option.
Just got back from "up-T-North"
drove great on the Motorway cruised at 65-70 no probs, slowing down was ok as well. we'll see how it goes

Just 1 new problem now , don't you just love Landrovers..
