Disco 1 holes in chassis question

I've been finding small (and large) patches of rust in my chassis.

Now I've been thinking. and though I am going to cut all the rot out and plate up mine. my question is ........

there are a lot of Landrover holes in the chassis, some round and some square.

As there are so many of them, would the MOT man say NO to any extra holes ...... even small ones ??
what if the hole was drilled to look like a 'proper Landrover' hole ??.... would that be ok ??

If so, at what size would it not be ok .. ?

Interesting question though, the problem I could see would be how do you make the hole look old once you have drilled it??

Holes in a disco chassis is unusual as usually the body will have gone way before. Do you mean the body? In which case, no, mot man will spot this a mile off.

Drilled would be ok, as long as it wasn't excessive. You need to think if there is a rusted chassis and a hold the size of a post it... that's probably not going to do much weakening. However as its rusted it will be weakened and there will be lots more no doubt quite close to showing through soon or metal thinning which is the worry.

Think of aircraft frames. They drill chuffing big holes in to make them lighter. I don't think anyone would care if you add extra,..

More hole means more crap can get in and eat the good metal.id personally plate them iff accessable

Officially, according to the testers manual holes caused by corrosion are a fail, or chassis being weakened by modification, obviously a rusty hole is a definite fail, drilled holes however, unless there's more holes than metal will *probably* pass... There aren't many testers that will put a fail on something modified in such a way, as the onus is on the tester to decide if it's actually weakened the chassis... Most will pass and advise.
I was actually told on my tester training all those years ago that you could repair a rusty hole with a drill...
