Transfer box Output Seal Removal

Hi guys

Attempted to replace the H/Brake shoes and rear output oil seal today as there was oil leaking from the drum and around the propshaft flange, anyway i got to the stage where i removed the output flange and back plate comp with shoes and found what looked like to be part of a felt washer which i hadn't got then decided to remove the seal but found some sort of a retention ring in front of the seal but not sure how it comes off.

so before i damage it trying to get it off can someone tell me how please as looking at the haynes bible it doesn't cover it as it goes into a trannybox overhaul but advises to have it done by a specialist and the H/Brake section doesn't cover it as it only cover's the H/Brake
