hi' all,
just bought my first freelander after having a go in the wifes yesterday.
just got one worry with it, it only has one cooling fan on the rad. the plug is there for the second fan and it seems to be running hot round the rad but the temp guage is showing just below half. sooooooooo
my question is,
should there be a second fan?
do they cut in at different temps?
will a 2000 model go into a 98 model 1.8?

i know it's three questions but i think slower than i write:D

I think all the 1.8's have a single fan, this is more than enough. Temp just below half way is perfectly normal.

The wiring loom is from the V6 set-up which should have two fans, maybe someone can confirm this.

The coolant system is pressurised, therefore will go above standard boiling point. Fans dont come in until 102 oC and shut off at 96oC.

Your fan only comes on when in traffic on hot days

yeah but the bonnet slam panel is red hot after a motorway run and it's just a bit worrying. balls to it, i'll just go and enjoy it and stop worrying

nah, freelander rocks.
got my disco on e bay at the mo though:mad:
been told the gardens getting like a car pitch so a couple have to go:D

I was reading through some other forum stuff.....

I havent tried this so dont know if it works?? If you run your engine to warm then disconnect the brown switch on the temperature sensor (RHS) of the k-series the fan should instantly come on.

Plus people are uprating the fuse from 15A to 20A

i think the fan works, the engine isn't actually running hot (relatively speaking) but when you stop and pop the bonnet the slan panel above the rad is bloody hot:eek: . i've had a few land rovers now but never come across this, should it be so hot (the rad's obviously doing its job so no blockage).
just one of those things that annoys me and i end up trying to fix something that isn't there:rolleyes:

I wouldnt worry about it then, sounds normal.

I tried disconnecting the switch after work, it works a treat. It was supposedly a fail safe mechanism so if any problems with temperature sensor then fan would come on.
