While I was under the car photographing prop-shafts and pulling at bushes I noticed there only appear to be 2 engine mounts, one either side of the engine bay. Seem to be symmetric and the same for petrol and diesel.

That would stop side to side motion but what stops end to end motion on the engine? Is that down purely to the transmission mounting on the centre cross-member?

Combination of all of them i would think. At least it doesn't have a bloody great tensioned cable like the old Jags had. :D

And you can always rely on Mr Radiator to step in with a helping hand when the mounts can't be bothered anymore.

The gearbox is mount on the crossmember once thats off theres a heap of movement in the block

Yes, good job as well. When I did the clutch spiral pins I had to go over the top of the transmission to get the starter motor off. It was a complete bar-steward.

Speaking of starter motors mine isnt happy squeeling and not returning quick enough. Just by inlet side i found it a doddle to remove when doing the gearbox. Ratchet spanners with a wobbly head. I keep forgetting yours is manual only seen 1 manual and thats when i was an apprentice never touched it or looked in or under it though
