What have you done to your Freelander today

Took my sub £300 Freelander for it's MOT ..........and it only went and passed with just an advisory on its handbrake :D . Just waiting for my mate to get his "super reliable" Grand Vitara MOTd ;)
 
Ive just orederd front discs. calipers, washers and disc screws from british parts, I already have the pads, hence how I found out I need new calipers.
Now for engine service kit.
There seems to be many variations when im looking and as im still new to owning a landy I haven't a clue what I have lol
2002 td4 , but when on ebay etc its asks if its LN??? what the hells that?
suppose its going to be easier to pop my head under the bonnet and see what kind of filters it has then try and match.
 
Just taken several hours to drain and change the gearbox oil , front anti-roll bar bushes and cure the rear diff oil leak by draining the oil , absolutely minging , and re-sealing with new instant gasket . It definitely seems smoother now and less suspension squeaks too .

Not sure about LN, but 02 was a changeover year to a newer-type Freelander. The engine service kit will have a different fuel filter depending. What's your VIN?

I have no idea of the top of my head, I no its -------2A-----
Im I right in thinking then, that all the filters would be the same on the models, ie : air, oil, crankcase etc ?
Just the fuel filter and placement is different on the models?
If so ill buy a set and worry about the fuel one later on

mines a 2002 td4 a 52 plate

vin number that are 2 a onwards have ventilated discs

ur fuel filter will be under the rear drivers side wheel arch

easy way to tell if urs is updated will be black trim outside, black wing side lenses and the rear indicator lights are clear , also the interior will be black

look on myfreelander .co.uk and will show u what years things were changed

have a look here, u will see different service kits according to the vin number

the vin will be stamped on the i side of ur passenger door

I've used bearmach bits and never had problems

if u ever have to replace the fuel pump buy an oem one only as the cheaper ones fail
 
hmmmm, nothing ever seems easy in landy world lol
right, so its just the fuel filter that differs, ill sort that later.

yep just the fuel filter

just make sure u get the td4 and not the earlier Diesel engine

crankcase get a bmw one as u can then basically fit and forget ,

also theres the egr bypass and check ur vacuum pipes for holes

if u get stuck give me a shout as im only 10 mins from the dartford tunnel and got a hawkeye if u ever need to read a code

but after ive paid off some of this credit card :(
tyres, alternator, new front brakes and still sourcing all the filters, it kinda adds up

hope im not telling u to suck eggs but ensure new tyres are fitted on the back axle
 
Finally got my hippo to the garage in the last four days done timing belt ,water pump changed two tyre`s another two to do tomorrow. Pick up a bypass thermostat kit fitting it tomorrow all that`s is left is a clean change gearbox and redo bearing in ird as its out at the same time ,also going to fit lift kit sort stop and tail light`s lights make a sump guard remove rear box as its knackered if it does not sound to load replace with tubing and also make some side /tree bars.

ps after reading what I have written I still got a shed full of work lucky got some really good friend helping me :D:D:D:D

pps Make a winch bumper and fit winch :eek::eek:

Finished wiring my rear work light, to find the illumination on the switch is faulty so need to be care ful not to leave it on!

Also found my spot light wiring has corroded again :(
 
lots and lots over last few days (various threaded started by me asking for help lol)

1.got her started
2.Modded the inlet manifold
3.Cleaned the VIS and resealed.
4.Found and nearly sorted a oil leak from hell ,coursed by some COWBOY and what looks like bathroom sealant!!!)
 
Finished fitting my silicone hoses after I bought the wrong set and needed a joiner piece. New vacuum hose came yesterday so will have a look at replacing those soon.
 
Starter motor has been sticking for the past few weeks and i got fed up of having to ask strangers to turn the key while i hit it with a hammer to get it going. So i finally got round to taking out the starter motor (that top bolt was really hard to get at/undone!), dismantling it and removing the center of the motor to clean it off properly. Freed up a stuck carbon brush and cleaned the rest of them off completely (two were very worn and two were only part worn). Cleaned out the solenoid and fitted it all back together before fitting everything to the car.

Only to realise i'd left the dividing plate out from the centre of the starter motor!! :rolleyes:

Managed to whip it all out in 10 minutes as opposed to the hour it took first time round!!

Starts nice and quickly, first time, every time now :D
