In theory we are still going, I'll probably be away for three weeks this time as it will be my 50th, if we can work out what day it is.

Larry will have some needed mods for this trip, like the roof rack not the fing roof box.

I wandered why they kept opening the bonnet every time they stopped. I will have to do something about storage this time also. Don't want tomato soup etc all over my windscreen again. I still have to sort out this vibration, I'm waiting for the weather to get warmer.

Wow you all have a long time to wait - just over 3 weeks for me!. The alternative is to go to Ceuta - a bit cheaper and a fast ferry - though the border crossing is less organised to put it mildly.

Wow you all have a long time to wait - just over 3 weeks for me!. The alternative is to go to Ceuta - a bit cheaper and a fast ferry - though the border crossing is less organised to put it mildly.

Now Tanger Med has become the more popular crossing it can actually be easier and less stressful going via Ceuta, especially on the return leg.
At Tanger Med all departing vehicles are often directed through the x-ray machine, causing huge tail backs.
I do the crossing 3 or 4 times a year as we run off road motorcycle trips out there and, at the moment, Ceuta is definitely my preference. Just don't forget the time difference on your return journey as once over the border and back to the port you are back on Spanish time. Something I won't forget again, Doh!!

The cooling set up you had before, was it just a standard set up? I don't suppose you have had a chance to test out the fridge yet.
I will be changing the decking on the roof rack on mine. I have a couple of ideas for storage which I will work on during the summer. Other than this vibration problem which I am beginning to think could be an inner front wheel bearing mine is more or less ready to go. It's too cold to worry about it at the moment. I have bought a larger whip aerial for the CB and an extension speaker, plus a meter to check out the CB signal. Might be able to hear what's going on this time round. I still have to get to grips with this navigation and my Panasonic toughbook. I'm not unduly worried about that with the wife coming along, she knows everything.

The cooling before was almost standard. We took the air-con off and removed the air-con rad but used the fans for cooling.
We removed the viscous fan and cowling too.
I'd fitted a programmable thermostat so we could see the temp and adjust when the fan kicked in and out. We could adjust as we were driving. Hardly ever came on on the roads.
The cooling rad was clogged up with grime before we left even though we'd tried to clear it a bit.
This time we're adding bigger fans

The Kenlowe fan I had fitted kicked in and kept the temperature down. I was thinking of changing my rad just to be on the safe side. They are not cheap but I have no intention of getting rid of the vehicle. Too much fun.

Yours might be like the one I took out, fine on the front, but missing a load of fins where you can't see.

I got a replacement new from ebay for £90, seems good value

Trouble with the rad in the p38 is that both hoses come in the top. There's a baffle in the middle at the top that diverts water down so as to get better cooling. These cheap ones off flebay tend not to have the baffle in and therefore overheating is a bigger issue.
Soak it in a bath of gunk or paraffin to clean all oil and crap out of it. Don't jet wash it, will knacker it!

We'll take ours out again and give it a going over in a paraffin bath.
