Urgently need a 200tdi engine for my defender!!!!!!

If anyone knows of anyone with a decent but not through the roof expensive engine with all bits. I would be interested i was away to replace my clutch on my 1991 defender 110 19j but might as well do the whole engine if i can find one.

Gumtree usually comes up trumps but decent 200tdis are becoming quite rare now

I bought one the other day 200tdi def engine with lt77 and lt230 450 quid, quite pleased, but turbo is goosed, engine well worn so reqs full rebuild, not expensive but hassle, also came with gwyn lewis alt mount and alt, quite pleased with that bit.
Bets bit is even if I never get around to it the value is always there, just like money in the bank, oh hang on!

Nowadays, I personally wouldn't swap a working 19J for a 200tdi, unless I knew the history of the tdi and/or the 19J was unknown. 200tdis are all quite old now, and it makes little sense to me to fit an engine that could well need a rebuild soon anyway. The supply of rusty discos with good engines has pretty much dried up, so it's not as cheap to do as it used to be. A few years back it would have been a better option.

Even if you eventually need to rebuild the td, at least then you'll know it's good, and parts such as injectors are cheaper.

Throw a 300TDI in straight swap, and no ****ing about with Exhaust pipe. & there's plenty of them around.

left front engine mount needs welding into place but it's pretty simple if you get the engine & gearbox onto the rest of the mounts. then offer up the mount it falls into place.

if you change bell housing & flywheel from the old engine gearbox will go straight onto the 300 engine.

Found this when looking into fitting a 300tdi lump into mine, not done it yet but saves cutting your chassis about


it allows you to use the standard engine mounting position on the chassis and fits around the oil filter

I got one of them mounts off ebay about a year ago for £50 or you could make one yourself.
