im looking at a 1999 4.0 hse rane rover it done 99000 miles full main dealer service history runs really well it will be my first range rover what should i look for regards mick:doh:

Check that everything works, heater flat positions, climate control, low ratio box, check everything.
The 4 litre engine can slip a cylinder liner leading to the over pressuring of the water jacket causing the heater matrix to leak, dumping anti-freeze in the passenger footwell. So start her up and make sure that the top hose doesn't go solid with pressure.
Check that the car comes with it's reset number and learn how to use it. My one locked me out several times taking about an hour on each occasion to effectively turn it off and turning it on again.

On the plus side, at 99,000 miles on the clock, it's got at least another 40 miles in it.

They can, but so can other motors. I've put nearly 100,000 miles on a '93 4.2 in 4 years, with a few dramatic niggles, but nothing that couldn't be overcome by bloody knuckles, oily everything and the help of this forum.

cheers only wary cos my daughters got a range rover sport doesnt stop spending money on it always putting up warning lights

they have there problems but with good maintenance and tlc and help from here they are great, a lot better than the newer ones good luck

Post in the Range Rover section for more info, but make sure everything works especially the suspension and the heater controls. As it's a V8, a sniff test on the coolant would not go amiss as they are prone to HGF and slipped liners, try to get 2 FOB's and make sure all doors lock and unlock. aslo check for the radio and EKA codes, if they are not with the car a dealer will supply usually FOC.
Check for wet carpet in the drivers footwell.
Make sure you have a pot of spare cash for the inevitable problems, for example if the air suspension bags have not been replaced, they will need doing, easy and not too expensive.
If it's on coils, walk away.
