Intermittent starting on my Freelander TD4

I have a 12 year old Freeander TD4. It starts most of the time first time but every so often it will turn over but not fire After an hour or two it will start first time again. I have no warning or idea of when it will or wont! I have had all sorts of opinions from faulty keyfob and immobiliser to fuel filter or pump and even putting in Tesco diesel which apparently is not good! but am still no the wiser. It was only serviced about 4 months ago so again I'm unclear. Someone mentioned a dirty MAF or loose wiring on low pressure fuel regulator! Im am completley non mechanical and therefore stumped! Any Ideas?

Sounds like a faulty cam sensor. When you leave it parked it cools down and resets. If you search this forum for cam sensor your questions will be answered.

Tesco is fuelled by Esso use it all the time in my TD4. Not a problem

Strangely if I put tesco fuel in mine it starts doing kangaroo impressions!!
Not saying that's the problem though, just weird how the same car can react differently to a fuel.

To answer the question, I'm with cairan60 faulty cam sensor.
If as you say you are no good at mechanics, you'd better find someone nearby who is.
