I am working on my p38 and decided to replace both front airbags
One bag looks very suspect although system was ok before I took the car off the road
I bought some nearly new bags off eBay but they came fully extended ( bag above bottom plastic support) how do I get the bag back over the plastic base
Trying to do this on the bench just kinks the centre every time or do I fit it onto the car in a crumpled way (being extended the bag would only fit kinked)
Then fire the engine up to pressure then allow suspension go to its low point for it to reseat over the base plastic

Nearly new bags are not new bags. Never get anything like that second hand. Special tool needed to roll the bags. Or you could use the car. Lift the body fit them put some air in to expand them and lower body slowly to roll them.

I have got the rear bags from the same seller on eBay and will replace if needed
Can you buy this special tool
The bags are only 1 year old as the seller got them from a land rover dealer

Just a side line I noticed you are living (or holiday??) from s.w France , I hope to be moving there in 2015 to the area of sauze-vassals /chef-boutonne and set up a nice personnal workshop with car lift etc etc etc

Lived here for 14 years, not that far from the English ghetto in Chef Boutonne.
I don't have a car lift but I do have an open ende. pit in the barn:D

Talked to land rover mech. And he said all I needed was washing up liquid and a vice
He told me to coat the bottom plastic in the liquid then push the bag to one side at 45+degree!so then slowly work the air bag around the base
First air bag took 30 sec to do the 2nd bag was a little tighter and took a few mins but job done
