sudden loss of power p38 diesel 3200 rpm

I know this subject been done to death but think mine is quite interesting 97 2.5 diesel 110 k DSE have had car for four years no problem starting hot or cold drives fantastic runs perfect on tick over and will have no problem accelerating to 5000 rpm and changes up fine I have always towed my caravan with this car and noticed going down the motorway while towing my car soon as it hit 3200 rpm I lose power puffs of black smoke come out from exhaust I take my foot off accelerator for a few seconds re apply throttle and is ok again everything is fine just dies at 3200 rpm when I don't have caravan on the back will drive perfectly it has to be something when engine is under load while towing HELP

You would be better off posting in the P38 section.
First thing to check is the in tank fuel pump & fuel filter.
Then onto diagnostics to see if there is a fault logged.
